Machine guns, unlike assault rifles, are not precision weapons.

An LMG fighters (or, in his case, MG fighters) job is to provide suppressive fire from the most advantageous position on the battlefield.

I was an LMG fighter in the Finnish defense forces (wielding a PKM), and one of the things that we were told was that once your squad opens fire, you shoot even if you don't see anyone. This is because LMG's, and more importantly machine guns, are fucking scary. You are forcing the enemy to stay still/down, merely by firing at their general direction, because only an idiot would charge head first towards a hail of bullets.
War isn't about individual kill count. Imagine engaging the enemy, expecting them to be just regular footmen, when suddenly you hear a 50 cal machine gun shooting at your squad from god knows where with no armored vehicles or MG-nests in sight. That's something that will force your whole group to stop, and allow the enemy to retreat with minimal casualties.

Shooting is not the problem here. What the problem is that he is clumsy. One of the key things about the way talibans fight is retreating. Open fire -> 1 minute of firefighting -> retreat -> next ambush. That guy is not going to be able to do any of that shit because running with that thing is far too slow and exhausting, no matter how big and strong you are.

My bad

He won't hit anything he ment to hit, he wont be able to carry the weapon and ammunition very far and basically wont function very well in almost every scenario

This is at best a propaganda picture.

i don't give half a flying fuck if he probably won't hit me. i don't give half a flying fuck if the thing bounces as high as a phillipino whore with each shot fired. I i see a middle eastern version of arnold schwarzenegger wielding a MG that should be mounted on a vehicle pointed at me with rounds as big as my hand as if it was a pea shooter, i'm getting the fuck out of there.

The .50 Cal machine gun was NOT designed for accuracy. It was designed to fuck up anything in its general direction.

Do you even suppressive fire? Didn't think so.
#52 - vorarephilia (06/21/2014) [-]
it's the 'more dakka' approach

keep throwing as many rounds as possible down range and eventually something will hit.

Literaly every ISIS video shows the same method of how they shoot. Hip fire with no means of accuracy. At least when he hits the guy will be very much dead.

Personally I praise people who save lives over the ones that take them. Warriors are a necessity for war and unfortunately it seems there will be more wars before we end up with world peace (if ever), but to me Mr. Rogers is a most astounding and inspiring human being than any other single human being in recorded history. Because it takes a lot to live as kind a life as he did.

I measure greatness by 'How much would history change were this person removed from it.' and I would not enjoy living in a world with less Fred Rogers to say the least.
