Fuck here in the USA we have privately run prisons and jails. The companies that run the jails have contracts that guaranty X level of occupancy, or the state/city they have the contract with eats fines. On top of that they get X amount of money every day per prisoner.

To make it even worse, we have debtor's prisons. If you owe too much in the wrong area you can go to prison and serve time for the money you owe.

Hell, here in the USA, some people spray paint airsoft guns and go rob places with them, that way they can't kill someone and can't be charged with firearm possession or any sort of deadly force offense.

Yh if you do that here you go to jail.

Mind you, it takes very little to get in trouble here, I got arrested once because my girlfriend was drunk and pissed off and handbagged me. A woman with a baby called the police saying we were 'punching the crap out of each other in the middle of the road', they arrested us both. They found out she was lying after watching CCTV but it took 14 hours for them to work it out. We both got a caution that lasts a year and a half.

But then again, our police are real dicks, they have to work to quotas otherwise they lose funding.

True story though.

True enough. I point out the UK and Sweden as examples of effective gun control. Australia too. Considering Australia was founded as a penal colony, and the low violence rate they have now, I'd say gun control is pretty damn effective if done right.

Our problem is we have ammosexuals who think gun control means Obama is coming to steal their guns.

You know there's so little guns here that guys convert starting pistols, BB guns, replicas, flareguns etc... it's crazy.

If I wanted to buy a gun illegally it would start at 1600 USD and wouldn't be loaded and probably would be fake/not work. And I've tried... because I was a dumb kid back then lol.

Depends, if you are hunting moose or elk, then small caliber rounds will just piss them off.

For self defense/target shooting, you have a point.

Actually, right there you are pretty wrong. Smaller caliber rounds have more penetration. A bulletproof vest that will stop a .45 mag every time will barely slow down a .22lr. The overall force is lower, but it is much more focused, and has a higher chance of over-penetration (traveling through the target and hitting someone else).

I'm not arguing for large caliber, but mid calibers are much safer. That or shotguns.

Add me if you want. I'm honestly just too lazy to search the internet right now.

What exactly do you want on bullet sizes? Are you look for sources on the bullets themselves (for instance in regards to how much weight they are, the kinetic energy blah blah blah), how they effect the targets?

And then maybe documented incidents of this occurring?

I just don't see the point in civilians owning military weapons. Unless you have military training they are pretty pointless to own for self defense, and for hunting or target practice there are far cheaper, more effective weapons for those without military training.
User avatar #331 - minggut (06/25/2014) [-]
I agree. There are no constructive uses for large calibre ammo that can't be replicated with smaller rounds for decreased risk to human life.
