First four are by Michael Stackpole (he wrote the first and second Vong books) and are about Rouge Squadron, then once that arc is done, a different author, Aaron Alliston (who wrote some of the TLotF books) writes three about Wedges new squadron called Wraith Squadron, and they are more of a commando/intelligence group who fly X-wings every now and then. Then there is a another Stackpole book about Rouge Squadron, it's a one off book, same with the book after which is written by Alliston, not about either squadron, just about Wedge, Hobbie, Tycho, and Janson. And I think recently there has been another book in the series released, this one about Wraith Squadron again, taking place during the Fate of the Jedi series.

Personally, the Wraith Squadron ones are my favorite.

It sounds like they're gonna skip straight the Legacy of the Force series, which is fucking awesome as well. TI think a Thrawn adaption will happen (since Disney is intent on using this for all it's worth, like marvel, which I think is a good thing, because look at marvel), those books were written to be movies. The Vong though is kinda out there for your casual star wars fan, and I'm satisfied with them staying books.

I agree with you on the prequels actually being good. I like what Zahn had in mind for the clone wars, but Lucas still did a decent job of setting it up (and then, like New Jedi order stuff, other people came in and did good shit with it as well). Episode 2 was my least favorite, and that is mostly because of the cheesy love scenes. Episode 3, I easily consider that better than Episode 4 Which, few star wars fans will admit it, was nothing more than a cheesy 70's sci fi movie. It was Empire that made Star Wars last.

Have you ever read the X-wing books?
User avatar #1929 - millennial (03/12/2014) [-]
I could see the TLoTF becoming their main thing, but I also see them copying the prequels with it in terms of a powerful Jedi's downfall (substitute Anakin with Jacen.) It certainly would be the easiest thing to do, but I wouldn't complain. I really just want the Vong Wars because of their carnage and brutality and they'd make an interesting enemy to see.
I actually liked the romance in episode 2, but I see how people could hate it. What made the movie for me was at the end when all of the clones descend on Geonosis and save the Jedi.
As for the original trilogy, I agree with episode 5. It's what made Star Wars, Star Wars. I loved the ending fight scene in 6 though, but goddamn the Ewoks pissed me off. They just seemed there for comical effect. It would've been better to have a more war-like species there, like maybe the Psadan or Trandoshians.

But no, I've never picked up a copy of the X-Wings series. X-Wing pilots never appealed to me for some reason Luke and Wedge excluded so I never got into it.

Some surprisingly great ass shit has come out of Star Wars publishing. Timothy Zahn should've wrote the prequels (even though I liked them) because he had some great ideas about how it should be (like how it was multiple wars where both the republic and their enemy used clones and regular people).
User avatar #1927 - millennial (03/12/2014) [-]
Star Wars is my favorite EU. I personally liked how the Clone Wars ended up with the Republic using them and the Separatists using Droids. I dunno, it just worked for me since I love the Prequels. The only one I didn't care for was Episode 1 and that's just because it was comedy based even though it had my favorite Jedi, Qui-Gon in it.
Hopefully the new trilogy will follow suit of either the Thrawn trilogy or the Yuuzhan Vong Wars. Preferably the Vong that way they could explain the actors aging and introduce a new young-adult cast. Ben, Anakin, Jacen, Jaina, etc. etc.

Yeah a lot of his characters he killed off were cool concepts and I liked a few of them but they died before they got the chance to go anywhere or let you become attached to them.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying the characters weren't good just that they weren't given the time to develope into people like Fred and George, and that'll happen when you introduce about 40 new characters everybook and have no true protagonists, that's the trade off for his method of story telling, it's really difficult to care about someone who you read a small splurge about every eighth chapter and dies in their sixth of seventh chapter.

I don't care if Cersei or Joffery die, they're overtly obvious two bit antagonists and I hate them for that as much as anything since they feel to cheesy and out of place to me.

Tywin is one of the like, five deaths in that series that got to me because at the end of the day I felt like he really was looking out Tyrion and respected Tyrion the most of his children in a twisted sort of way, the smile on his face when Tyrion shot him + The fact that he goaded Tyrion into doing it and in a way sort of freed him from being stuck beneath Cersei/Joffery.
Rob was the other death that came out of the left field for me, I was really rooting for him because I too am a northerner fan. I like Ygritte as I stated before but again she wasn't around long enough for me to really care one way or the other, she was a foot note in the story of Jon, just as Khal Drogo was a foot note in the story of Daeneryes.
The final character whose fall I actually cared about and remember is Theon's because I really liked him, then I hated him, then I liked him, and now he disgusts me.

If Jon's dead I'll also care about that but that's sort of a cliff hanger, I found that him, Arya, Tyrion, and Daenerys chapters have been the only actually interesting chapters these last two books with everyone else being more politics/exposition/filler than adventure/plot.
