The final kingdom is the kingdom of Glacio in the North. By far the most reclusive kingdom, they're also the oldest. Glacio was an ally of Ensiferum until the two went to war with each other prior to Eliot's birth. While Ensiferum had the largest military, many will tell you that it's Glacio that has the most powerful and most disciplined. Unfortunately, numbers won and Glacio lost the war when Veros betrayed them and joined sides with Ensiferum. In the final, major battle of the war, both Ensiferum and Glacio lost their kings destroying at the time it was eliot's dad. when he died his grandfather took up the crown again all moral to continue the fighting. Glacio and Ensiferum signed a treaty in the following days declaring peace. No body knows for sure why the war was started, but it is said that Eliot's mom, the queen of Ensiferum, fell in love with both the king of Ensiferum and Glacio. After learning that both kings had died in battle, she killed herself and left her then 3 year old son to be raised by the king of Ensiferum. a major plot point in this is that eliot may be the heir to glacio.
Since Glacio is a winter kingdom, their main animal partners are giant wolves, giant elk, bears, and warhounds.

As stated, there were kingdom's focusing on specific professions. There are 5 major kingdoms on this world (we'll call it Terra).
Eliot's kingdom will be called Ensiferum for right now.
Ensiferum is situated in a mountainy region to the south making it hard for enemies to attack them. it also gives way for many citizen's animals to be birds and wolves. Ensiferum is a military based kingdom taking pride in their prowess and nobility. Treachery is a great offence to their hierarchy and cunning isn't as valued as a forwardness.

In the middle of Terra is the merchant kingdom, Veros. Due to it's location of being in the middle of the land, Veros became a trading hub for the other kingdoms and as such, became very rich. They're the second largest kingdom on Terra, but they're also the richest. Their military is based off of mercenaries and as such, have no real military doctrine. Veros is a place where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Many people in this land's animals are giant snakes, giant moths and butterflies, and dinosaur type lizards.

In West is the kingdom of Aquni. Having their major profession being ship-building and fishing, Aquni grew as a kingdom through their naval prowess. While Ensiferum has the biggest military, Aquni has the biggest and most powerful navy. Regarded as the most beautiful kingdom in Terra, tourism is also a huge factor for them. Their place on the coast has given many people giant iguanas, giant cranes, and many oceanic life as animal partners.

In the East is the tropical kingdom Morbath. The people in Morbath are a high class society favoring beauty over everything else. They have the smallest military but their neutrality means they're never in wars. Their main export is lumber and craftsman ship. Animal partners found there are mostly bears and war hounds.

What I really want to see is some book where the hero has some sort of special powers. He and some sort of companion is kicked out from wherever they live and end up in a big city on earth. Rest of the story is about them trying to fit in and hide their powers. Ends with the champion has to chose between hiding his powers and let something awful happen, or reveal his powers. Think how Zuko/Iroh lived in Ba Sing Se in ATLA.

Oh ye, there's a fanfic somewhere on the internet probably on fanfiction.net that's related to this. I read it some time ago, not a big fan of fanfictions but I got it recommended and thought it wouldn't take too long to read. Well it's 750 000 words, so it took some time. Anyway, it's related because for about 200 000 words or something, the author retells Iroh and Zuko's story in Ba Sing Se. The whole fanfiction is a retelling of the events after Azula shot Iroh, but it's really good. It's called Embers, and is the most favourited fanfiction on the ATLA parts on the site, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.

I have one about a DI who's wife is murdered in their own home, but no usable evidence is left behind at the scene, and then he goes along on a great big investigation, but every time he interviews a person, they die shortly after, in a similar fashion: the killer was clearly let into the home, and the victims did not fear him. On the last two cases, the leads are killed before he even gets close.

In a climactic final raid on what the protagonist is convinced is the killers lair, he reaches the revelation that his partner (let's call him Bill) is the killer. Turning on the partner and threatening to shoot him, to pay him back for the murder of his wife, backup finally arrives... to the protagonist pointing a gun at thin air.

The protagonist murdered his own wife after discovering her infidelity, but wracked with guilt, he cleared the scene (knowing what would be looked for as a DI. He entirely blocked out the memory, and so only discovered the crime when he returned home. There is a quick re-visitation of each of his interviews, in which it turns out all the people he interviews let slip something that triggered his memory, filling him with the guilt as well as the murderous rage. The people were all happy to let the DI into their homes/workplaces, and never feared him until their end. By the time the last two people were to be interviewed, he was quickly spiralling into a very dark place, and killed them outright. By the end, a part of him knows he is no longer going to get away with it, and that he probably never was going to anyway, so he constructs Bill, as another DI he possesses the same skill set used to carry out the killings, and so he blames them on Bill, trying to offload his own guilt.

He is arrested, and spends the rest of his days in a medical criminal facility, convinced he is a DI there to investigate the murder of his wife.

There's this one story that I spent months world-building for, and never bothered to write. Typical fantasy-ish sorta background, with Humans, Technologically-advanced Elves, and poorfag Goblins. The Duke of Holtward is on a diplomatic mission to the Goblin territory when they're attacked, sparking off a huge war. A ragtag team of shitty adventurers bands together, including Gwen, the human warrior who would be better at stealth and daughter of a great warrior Actual spoiler: he was never a warrior - he was a thief and just didnt want his daughter to know, but the years of him telling his 'stories' of war inspired the girl to become a warrior , who happens to not be able to read; Geoffrey, the War Priest, sent on a mission to rid the world of Heresy, but who doesn't know what Heresy is Actual spoiler: He thinks "heresy" just means "bad people", so he lets innately evil races live if they look like they're doing okay. Also, he is a Vampire after he was made one by his God, so that he'd be more powerful ; and Rys, the non-magical Elf who can't use any elven tech because it's all based on magic Actual Spoiler: by the end, he figures out a way to cure himself of his non-magicness .

Because they are all just so shit at everything, they completely miss what normal people would find but find what normal people would miss, and end up finding the cause of this whole big kerfuffle and try to fix it Actual Spoiler: The Duke is actually evil and summoned an army of the undead to make it seem like both sides were being attacked by each other, so that he could make enough sacrifices to his God to bring his wife back from the dead.

Here is one.

A soldier comes home from war, and when he gets back he starts having vivid nightmares. His therapist argues its PTSD, but the nightmares are not memories. Turns out the enemy country released psychoactive drugs as a weapon, and the soldier was caught in it in more than one occasion.

The dreams become more vivid and he starts to recognize events from his dreams, and he begins to control them to find out when and where they occur. He starts to use this to predict crimes, and becomes a crime fighter.

Human versions of different countries fighting in gang wars in one big city. Like, America being a brown-haired, blue-eyed early 20s gang-leader with his gang, "the Americans" representing the different ethnicities of America. He'd have a grudging alliance with France and would be England's ex-boyfriend after an ugly breakup.

Most of my ideas will never be realized because I´m a lazy fuck.

To your story, tho - sounds a bit clichée, somehow, but still pretty interesting. Why does the beauty-based country have warhounds and so, tho?

I`ve been doing some world-building, tho, lately worked shifts to earn some money for next semester and did create a shit-ton of lore, characteristics geografics, etc, for a naval based country like the one in your idea. Imagining a whole people is interesting as hell...
User avatar #2432 - millennial (03/28/2014) [-]
The animals are there because it's just where they are Geographically, a city's culture regardless.
Kinda how France is considered really sophisticated and shit, yet you can find bears there that are not, well, sophisticated.
If that makes sense. Probably not because i'm shit at explaining things.

But yeah dude, it really is fun to imagine shit. another idea for a short story I've had is about this dude who learns the secret to life. Pretty much each time a person creates a universe in their head, a new dimension is created and that universe is then filled in that dimension. that would mean every world or adventure a person has thought about has become real in their own dimension. So LoTR, GoT, harry potter and so on are all actually real. The same thing happened with ours with us just being the side effect of some being's imagination. Eventually a dude is born with this gift to travel through all of these dimensions through an ability like a tear from bioshock infinite. One day while he's in another dimension something happens and he gets stuck there and he has to find a way to get back to our dimension.

Again, that synopsis probably didn't make any sense cause i'm bad at this.
Think of it as this;
Everytime he opens a book and reads it, that book's stories and characters come alive in their own real dimension.

Names for characters:
Protagonist is Eliot, The King is King Abraham, Eliot's great-uncle is Mortiff, Master at arms is Ser Wayne, Love interest is Anastasia, childhood best friend is Marcus, battle-hardened brute is Solomon, and Archer is Ivy.
Their animals:
Eliot's is a war hound. Imagine a Rottweiler the size of a horse with goat-style horns.
King Abraham's is a giant eagle like the ones in lotr.
Mortiff's is a giant bull.
Ser Wayne's is a giant albino wolf with only one eye. Anastasia's is a giant panther. Marcus' also has a war hound, but his looks more like a german Shepherd than a rottweiler. Solomon has a Triceratops-like lizard and Ivy has a normal but really intelligent falcon.
Eliot's father had a giant raven before he died as well.
