Not something so big or stupid as doing drugs. That's just wayyyy too fucking much to be considered a mistake. They knew exactly what they were doing.

That's not a mistake. A mistake is spilling your cup of water or some shit. They made a conscious decision to do drugs and now they must deal with it. Don't get addicted in the first place and you'll be fine. That way you wont have to worry about any abuse. That counseling and treatment costs money. I'm fine with the drug addicts to just die off. Get rid of the scum of society I say.

And edgy? Everyone on this site loves to over use that word... sorry if my thoughts are too extreme for you.

Have you ever made a conscious decision to do something and immediately regretted it afterwards? Would you not call that a "mistake"?

It's completely their own fault for becoming addicted to drugs in the first place. They have no one else to blame but themselves. Fuck the disorders that they brought on themselves. They made bad life decisions and now must live with it.

Also this wouldn't be unreasonable. It is very reasonable to make sure some crack head doesn't waste their government money on more crack. That makes perfect sense.

I'm sorry that you feel that way, Anon. While I haven't really come down firmly on either side of this issue (I was merely giving Ellwood the other side of the argument, which he asked for), I certainly don't believe some one should be cursed for their entire life for making some mistakes, especially mistakes involving something as difficult and unrelenting as drug abuse and addiction.

The way I see it, Government-mandated drug counseling and treatment would be a preferable solution to just cutting people off. Then if they don't clean up their act, seek further disciplinary action.

NO! YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE!

But seriously, both are really really good. I just think Brave New World is way more subtle, eerie, and is (for me, anyway) easier to connect to on an emotional level.
