The only reason people use it is because they're taking the piss out of the feminists who used it to say people were "triggering" them.

Then people realized the CSA's biggest export was cotton and tobacco, which could grow anywhere. They would've been fucked and their slaves would have to be repurposed, which could take years. So boned it's not even funny.

Make no mistake, the point of the Civil War was to keep the country whole.

This reasoning is only one factor in the civil war.

except by the 1860s, egypt and india were murdering the south's profit off cotton and the caribean off tobacco
User avatar #4 - carneymaster (02/06/2015) [-]
unfortunately for the south their biggest export cotton was soon found to be able to grow anywhere. The type of cotton the world had been growing was tedious and fickle to grow, but it produced cotton without seeds inside of it. Unlike the cotton that grew wild here at the time. But then someone made the cotton gin which could extract the seeds very rapidly. Now this cotton that grows anywhere and can be de seeded was spread everywhere leaving the south without its ace in the hole.

And Cuba and Brazil had a fast growing tobacco industry that was massively undercutting South's profitability, which is why southern plantation owners were so desperate to keep slavery, because they felt they couldn't possibly compete with Egyptian and Indian cotton and south american tobacco.

Wheat was not even an issue at the time. Iowa, Illinois and Missouri with their superior quality rail and massive amount of wheat lands have taken over as main suppliers of wheat and corn.

Northern industry actually was moving away from the types of agricultural raw goods industry and into heavy industry so southern goods were by no means critical for Northern economy. Loss of South would have hurt North, yes, but for the South without its own industry it would have been crippling, especially by keeping slavery, with its low productivity and stranglehold on low paying jobs.
