I know what you mean, man. People love to tell you, "You're beautiful/fine/perfect/etc just the way you are." Those people miss out on the beauty of one's own ability to improve themselves. I have a strong belief that most everyone's problems could be solved with self-improvement, but you need to see things without an ego first, you have to be critical but fair of yourself and others. I have a saying I think of when I think about these things: What happens to the ones who don't evolve? They go extinct.

Lots and lots of observation. I was always the quiet one in high school. As such, I spent alot of time listening and watching other people, how they act, how they talk, etc. Problem is I always observed THEIR faults, and sadly it wasn't until much later I started to acknowledge my own. It is only when you are as critical on yourself as you are on others that you can truly begin to change who you are, and accept the mistakes you've made.

That's all good and all but this is real life I'm talking about. That anime stuff won't pass. Just because someone is good doesn't mean they have hidden strength and just because someone is a bully doesn't mean they have hidden fear.
Every situation is unique and every person in those situation come from different circumstances. If someone lives his life kicking puppies and punching children doesn't have anything in their lives to lose then you better fucking fear that person because he won't stop til he's dead.
If someone lives their life helping the old and unfortunate and they are close to their family then they are not exactly scary if you piss them off because they have value in their lives. They will stop if you threaten something they care about and they don't gain amazing strength because they want to protect people.

I am not saying a person cannot be afraid, only that they must not let themselves be consumed by it.
If a man lives his life "kicking puppies and punching children" for no reason, then he cannot be reasoned with. He is reckless, and this will be his downfall. At some point, he will make a mistake. It is natural to fear this man, because he is unpredictable. He needs to be stopped. And when a good person decides he NEEDS to be stopped, they will do everything in their power to find a way to stop him. Strength comes in many forms, not just physical. Strength is patience, being able to wait for the right opportunity to strike back. Strength is resolve, knowing you won't accept living in fear. Strength is perseverance, enduring your suffering for as long as it takes to change your fate. Winning does not always come down to a single fight, and many times you will incur losses along the way. You cannot change what has already happened. There is no perfect solution to any problem. The only thing you can do is decide whether you will let that loss bring you down, or build you up. Embracing fear is giving up. Settling to live your life as is. Never growing, never discovering. Being a static person for the rest of your life. But is that really living? A good man knows that life is about being free. Free to grow, free to explore, free to love, free to pursue happiness. And he will sacrifice what he must in order to ensure that for himself and those he loves, because that is what's most important to him.

Except this isn't the world of Avatar and using power to smash garbage people in the ground is the way to go.
Help and be kind even to people you don't know, but destroy anyone who abuses others.

User avatar #22 - ihaspotato (01/11/2015) [-]
But is accepting abuse from a bully and hating him for it cowardly? I was bullied for about seven years and never did anything back because the teachers and my parents told me that if i fought back i'd only make it worse. So i stood out with the physical and psychological pain. Since the school was doing nothing i told my parents, sure they cared but apparently not enough to do anything about it. So in sixth grade i finally snapped, i fought back for once and i just kept punching until he was bleeding all over the place and i got all the blame. The thing is this produced results, he finally left me alone. That said i believe i'm smart enough to not jump directly to violence. Sorry for the wall of text but i think labeling someone as a coward just because they hate the person who abuses them is ridiculous.
#25 - mikepetru (01/11/2015) [-]
but the key there is you stood up to him , even though you were afraid, and only when you realized there was no other choice. You exhausted every peaceful option. Maybe you didn't need to beat him to a bloody pulp, but I guess not killing him is good enough in terms of your own personal growth and the circumstances you were dealing with at the time. I mean, no one expects a sixth grader to have that kind of self control. So yeah, restraint. Maybe a beating is all he needed to understand he must stop, but unleashing pent up fury like that all at once could lead to results you didn't intend i.e. killing someone. Hatred is a natural response to someone who seeks to do you harm for no good reason. The key is to not let hatred dictate your actions. Although fighting him might very well be the only option you had, you let your hatred push you to the point where you were beating him until there was "blood everywhere." From your story, I gather this kind of aggression is not your instinctual reaction to abuse, but merely an instance where you let your emotions take over. Do just enough to make a person stop. Extra violence is unnecessary violence. And remember if you were the one on the floor bleeding to death, I bet you would hope he'd stop. Do unto others and so on and so forth. Furthermore, it is healthy to find an outlet for your aggression rather than bottling it up for so long. What works for me is working out. Harbor your hatred for a long time and one day you'll explode. Always let it out and no one will want to be around you. But find a productive outlet for your stress and you can find balance within yourself.
