You just don't like Obama for your reasons stated earlier, and that dislike has blinded you, he's not on BTF for fun or on his own accord, he's plugging and advertising Obamacare to the younger generation who watch that show, which is alot. Every president ever down to your mayor does shit like this.

See, there is no winning with this kind of logic. "I'm glad he has the time for ..."

Every president took vacation, every president did stuff that wasn't part of their main job description. Get over it. If you want to attack his stances on issues do that, but don't make everything he does a reason for criticism.

A vacation is a vacation, it has nothing to do with furthering his political career. Obama most likely agreed to do this video because as stated above, it would make him look like a cool, funny down to earth guy to general youtube audiences, thus scoring points with the American people.

You should do some more research before you criticize. He actually went on the show to plug Healthcare.gov. The show reaches a demographic which needs to sign up for healthcare for the ACA scheme to work. So he was doing his job. No scandal here folks.

A president going to the media in order to help his image is different from what other presidents have done and will do?
User avatar #122 - mikepetru (03/12/2014) [-]
A president should use the media in order to convey his political ideologies, not to make jokes. Sadly, the general populace seems to respond better to a good personality rather than good principles, so yes other presidents have done this in the past, but it doesn't make it right, nor is it wise for people to indulge them in these frivolous endeavors at gaining political support through a means completely unrelated to politics.
#128 - theseustheminotaur (03/12/2014) [-]
Kissing babies and shaking hands is one of the oldest political campaign strategies, it does exactly what you're saying they shouldn't do. Presidents always poise themselves in a way that endears them to whatever section of the populous they happen to be visiting, it is the way politics has been done. Its why politicians volunteer in soup kitchens during the campaign trail, and never again afterwards.
To single out this president for doing what other presidents have done seems intellectually dishonest.
I would much rather you engage in discussion about his stances and policies than just taking potshots. For all I know, you could be saying this about every politician of the past 40 years, but I'm used to seeing this kind of behavior in every comment section of every news article that is even remotely related to Obama.

It's confirmation bias. People like the guy, so they tend to shit themselves over the positive things he does, no matter how insignificant. The same goes in reverse, where people constantly have to bring up all of the bad shit he does to try and downplay anything good he does.

That is absolutely correct. People who dislike him will find any reason to, those who like him will find reasons to like him more. People seem to be unaware when they are exhibiting confirmation bias I have found.

I don't base it on how funny he is, but it is a little hard to agree with a group of people who think the government is doesn't something it has absolutely no interest in.

You really think drone strikes and diplomacy are all hinged upon the decisions of one man? Sure he's the president, but there's no way he has that much influence on his own.
User avatar #117 - mikepetru (03/12/2014) [-]
Well I'm glad to know the COMMANDER IN CHIEF of the US Military doesn't have that much influence over the military.
User avatar #120 - lolollo (03/12/2014) [-]
So you're a fan for giving one man a majority of the power to run a country?

They have a word for that...I think Britain still has it.

The US president has more power than the British prime minister btw
User avatar #125 - mikepetru (03/12/2014) [-]
I think you've forgotten the president can't declare war unless he gets a majority vote from Congress. Checks and Balances. Unfortunately, recent presidents seem to ignore this clause and Congress lets them get away with it. He wouldn't have a majority of power over the country, but I think as top executive of his government branch, he has the power/influence to overrule an attack order from a lesser rung on his branch.
User avatar #127 - lolollo (03/12/2014) [-]
Really? That's what you think happened? Congress barely let Healthcare slip through, and now that it has, they're feverishly trying to take it back. You really think Congress would have let a declaration of war (which doesn't exist, we're not at war with Russia, that's just another petty scare people want as a reality to complain about) happen?
User avatar #97 - lolollo (03/12/2014) [-]
Because the opposite is soo much better.

"Yes, I know, that, like, Obama is a tually down to earth on most issues today, but he wants to take our guns away, so fuck dat guy!"
User avatar #103 - mikepetru (03/12/2014) [-]
Him being a down to earth guy and making a funny is inconsequential to my life. He can pursue his acting career after his term is over. Gun rights on the other hand, are an ACTUAL social issue, and so, his stands on such an issue are actually relevant to me forming an opinion of him as a leader, rather than a comedian. Hitler had a good personality, that didn't make him a great leader. Not saying Obama is Hitler, but if you base your opinion of leaders on how funny they are, you can be sure that they'll have the last laugh.

my mother has a strong tradition for whenever my sister's visit
she makes potato salad and sloppy joes this actually makes surprise visits from my sisters quite impossible cause she never makes potato salad any other time as I don't eat it
my sister brought her boyfriend over once to meet my mom
never once did she mention that Josh (the bf) was allergic to mustard which my mom uses in potato salad
this allergy did not get mentioned until he already had a plate of potato salad and he said "wait... do I taste mustard?"
my mom immediatelly started panicing like "OMG HE GONNA DIE!!!"
Josh just calmly took a drink of water and said "nah! it is alright as long as it was only a small amount!"
my sister knew very well that he had this allergy, and she knew that mom puts mustard in potato salad... my mom has always taken precautions to make sure that meals for guests don't affect allergies or diets and if given that info she probably would have taken almost excessive lengths to prepare that potato salad in a way that wouldn't use mustard but still tasted the same she made vegetarian lasagna for my brother's vegetarian girlfriend.. spent like a week looking for ingredients that had only certain substances and all that shame on my sister :3
User avatar #55 - mutzaki (03/07/2014) [-]
I agree with you fully. However, since the content was about serving a vegetarian friend meat, and not giving them an alternative, I consider that pretty damn obnoxious. It's implied that the cook knew about the vegetarianism.
User avatar #139 - luckyblackcat (03/07/2014) [-]
But if you told a person to cook them something else just to cater to their views, that's just being a cunt. Plain and simple. They shouldn't make you something else because you don't like meat, just because you have a different view on eating animals, it's selfish if you do.
User avatar #168 - mutzaki (03/07/2014) [-]
So what do you suggest they do? Just sit there without a plate while everyone else is eating? Not going at all?
The whole thing of bringing your friend over and making them dinner is about you being kind and being a good host because you like your friend. Inviting a friend over for dinner when you're not even planning on catering to their special diet, is being a dick. So is not inviting them over at all because you can't be bothered to do cook up a little something else for them, OR to invite them over and telling them that they won't be served food.
That's a good way to lose a friend.
User avatar #172 - luckyblackcat (03/07/2014) [-]
But usually the person won't tell you they won't tell you they want that until you've finished cooking and they have come over. Then they'll start bitching at you. When you don't tell some that just made you dinner what your preference in food is. That's being a dick. And they're not sitting there with nothing, they just choose not to eat it.

Get my point?
User avatar #176 - mutzaki (03/07/2014) [-]
Obviously, not telling someone who's cooking for you that you have special dietary needs is retarded. That's not exactly usually the case, though. Especially not when it's already been established that he's having a vegetarian friend over. He will know that his friend is vegetarian.
#124 - angelusprimus (03/07/2014) [-]
Once you reach about the age of mid twenties, you can't really invite a friend for dinner without inviting their significant others. Girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands, wives, russian women off the internet that don't speak english.
While you know your friends, very often on that dinner it will be the very first time you will meet their new squeeze. Since you don't know those people, and you invite them to dinner at least week in advance, its up to them to inform you if they have any special food needs.
#56 - fully (03/07/2014) [-]

Well the legend does from somewhere.
The human eye can't stay focused on a still object for too long, so we'll start to see something move, even when it's completely stationary. Mix in some darkness and paranoia, you're face becomes a monster's. Sometimes people will see a family members face, or a strangers though.

Maybe you just need to stare longer.
