Maybe it makes sense if the people who decide if we go to war are the ones who would actually be going to war.

How about everyone who votes yes and are between the ages of 18 and 40 have to volunteer for service?

I actually like this idea. I feel that it's probably time consuming and in need of refinement of some sort, but this kind of thought process is one which I imagine can bring us progress.

This wont work as effectively as you might think. Its a great idea but there are some flaws.
People will go to the doctor and fake some sort of illness just so they dont have to go. on top of that the issue of saying no just because because they dont want to be drafted would happen a lot. we dont want war but do we want peoples opinions to change just because the fear of drafting.

I think you missed my point. When I said "in need of refinement of some sort", this was exactly the kind of things I meant.

The thought behind this idea is what's important, not the idea itself. We need to create a world-wide society in which people actually do place serious thought behind their votes and decisions. We need everyone to stand up for fair rights not only for themselves, but for others of even the most different origin.

It's really all just a pipe dream; but without something to aspire to, we'd simply be accepting our doom without ever knowing if we could escape it.
