Please look up French military history, and also consider their situation in WWII.

Also, they helped America win their revolution, just saying.

You'd be surprised how well the French fought in the German invasion. We (the British) fought along side them and a British General complimented them on the ferocity in the way they fought. I can't remember the exact quote but it sounded fucking Heroic, it was just no one could stand up to Germany.

Also, throughout history France has been one of the , if not the, military countries on the planet. Only countries like Germany, Britain, Austria and the like could possibly match them (and only after the Napoleonic wars). The Second World War gave them such an unwarranted military reputation its actually sad.

France has only one big problem: "The French are always one war late (with their mindset and technology)". Don't know who said that.

Thats also not true. French Military throughout history has always been relatively up to date with their tech. I mean, maybe going into WW1 and 2 they were a little behind the Germans but that can be said for all countries.

Hell, George Patton leading up to WW2 still considered Tanks to be less important than Cleverly. George Patton is like a national icon, and he thought Tanks weren't as effective as cleverly. It wasn't until he saw how effective they were he jumped on board and commanded a Tank Battalion.

Reminds me of a story my grandfather told me some years ago (his father was in the first few waves that attacked Poland and later he would fight in Russia aswell). He said that the Germans told the Polish that tanks are made of paperboard and wasn't until the famous Polish cavalery attacked them that they realised the Germans were lying. Of course their whole battalion has been shot to pieces.

German military/-technology was the best at the time (nowadays we don't even seem to have helicopters able to fly...), you're right. But the French in WW2 didn't want to buy tanks either, Charles de Gaulle (renown general and statesman) was even made fun of when he suggested to get some tanks and defence against Germany when they were preparing for war.

Well, To be fair to the French they were planing a purely defensive war with Germany. The Maginot line was so strong that if the Germans attracted them at the line, theres a high chance they would have held out far longer/repelled them completely. Germany was able to easily to take them down by going through Belgium, who failed to create their part of the line. He may have been laughed at because it was pointless, they didn't need tanks.

Also, I'm literally watching a documentary this second where they talk about the Polish Cleverly rushing Panzer Battalions. Heroic, and idiotic, stuff. Its called WW2 in HD and Colour if you're interested at all in a good Documentary series, would highly recommend it.

Good advice, will do!
The Maginot line was a big joke to the Germans. A friend of mine, German and history teacher likes to say "the Belgian army at the time consisted 90% antitank barriers" so that German troups would have an easy time making their way through Belgium. It's actually funny to think about how the German Blitzkrieg could've been prevented/prolonged if only the Maginot line was able to turn around. Small mistake, big effect.

You and anon above
- yes, as if ANY victory or loss of the previous generation affects you at all.
You better start caring about your future, than wave around your imaginary dicks of history.

You know why Americans prosper? Because they work for tomorrow. They said - oh, fuck, our 5 minute gathering of old men aka Founding Fathers is way better than thousands of years of your European history. And that's it and you can go and bend yourself in half and they still will keep to that. Noone really cares. They care for having faster planes and bigger roller-coasters.
At the same time you sit here and discuss meaningless historical researches, that would suit your views and would tolerate your opponent and the jews.
#143 - aabbccddeeffgghhii (02/20/2015) [-]
Where the fuck did the Jews come into anything? Where the fuck did Tolerance come in, anywhere? Why the fuck was America involved when we were simply arguing purely French wins and losses?

Congrats Anon, that comment was a fucking mess.

I understand that. But people do believe that the French just dropped their guns and ran, which wasn't true and is wrong. I just like for people to know. And this is coming from a Brit, I hate the french for simply being French and I feel bad for them!

So? it's still sources from actuals war that changed world history rather than expansion wars that any country should be capable of.

Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against French people or France in general but noone should overglorify it's military history.

Oh I agree with you. I just had to point it out.
