1. To put forth reasons for or against; debate
So? That's only natural. You won't see two believers arguing over the existence of God. They will argue about small details from the bible, but that's all. The more you are against something, the more you will criticize and attack it.
In science, the exact same thing happens:
A: Do you have something against my theory?
B: Nope, I agree with it.
C: I disagree. You see, blah blah blah.
C is against A's theory, so it will obviously argue more about it than A or C or another person who agrees with it. The more you have to say, the more you will argue. To me, it's just normal.

only on funnyjunk. in real life, the crazy religious people pass laws and legislation that wont let people marry or visit their dying lover in the hospital because some book says its immoral. thats why they complain here, because theyre too lazy to do shit in the real world.

No, Agnostics would wonder at whether or not stamp collecting is worth it.
Theism vs Atheism
It is entirely seperate. Your example is like me saying theism is when people kill you for not collecting stamps, or the right kind of stamps, they condemn you, insult you and take your land.

I need to agree sadly. My overall opinion on religion is you can believe what you like so long as
1. It doesn't hurt anyone
2. you dont start telling people who dont share your views what to do.
The sad fact is that some atheist break both those rules. They complain that people with different views are stupid for having them while saying religion tells people what they should think.
Its People that are the problem here. Religion has nothing to do with being an arsehole.

As a Christian, I would like to ask a question, I understand that sharing beliefs with somebody that doesn't share the same beliefs can be annoyed, but we were told to go and make disciples of all nations, and to share our faith, so what do you suggest we do? Piss of people or disobey our God.
tl;dr I don't know what I am supposed to do to avoid pissing off somebody.
#158 - restfullwicked (02/24/2013) [-]
for a start remember that this is the internet, People are going to get pissed off because you have an opinion that is different from theirs anyway.
i am more or less agnostic. I believe in some sort of higher power but dont really follow a religion, I personally believe that if god will damn a good man to Hell simply for not worshiping him is not worthy of anyone's worship. In my opinion religious people (sadly it is mostly Christians and Muslims) need to stop trying to convert people to their way of thinking, i know people that believe in evolution and god, they are constantly judged for it.
In short, so long as you dont treat people badly for not sharing your views you have nothing to worry about, I would never save the life of an Atheist over a Christian. they are both Human beings at the end of the day. If people are mad at you for your beliefs then that is their problem, not yours.

I find that being much more passive about it helps if you're trying to not be hated. There are people actively trying to convert people, such as Jehovah's Witneses, so I don't do anything. I simply appear with a demanor of peace and respect and let my actions talk for me. Many people are atheist BECAUSE of others trying to convert them too much.
#87 - yomommabinshoppin (02/24/2013) [-]
Well I always try to be passive, because otherwise I seem like an obsessed mitems, but aren't we supposed to actively try to share our faith, with enthusiasm and not fear of rejection, I don't know, maybe I am just a bad Christian. I don't share my faith very often unless I find an opportunity that is so obvious that if it was any more obvious it would magically appear on the ceiling saying "HEY, TELL THIS KID ABOUT GOD" I feel as though I shouldn't need that. Sorry for the rambling but I just feel like talking.

I didn't mean that one should hire whoever stepped in their office.. I'm just trying to say that educating yourself could be alot better than going to a school.
Then, if you want a job, you could take the exams as a privatist, thus getting the proof you need to show them you're cvalified for the job.
I'm sorry if this wasn't clear enough.
#259 - turboderp (10/29/2012) [-]
Idk where you live, but in norway one can take exams and tests as a private person, at the same time as the students do. You just skip the going to school thing.. So basically, you have the same papers as others, and you may, if you're a good learner, get goddamn good grades.. The only papers you wont have is which school you went to, and how many days you met/were absent... Idk.. Maye you're right though..
#10 - selfdenyingbeggar (10/28/2012) [-]
Yeah, they do. I'm not attacking school (although I do believe it's made to teach people to obey and to teach them what to think and not how to think). What I was thinking of was the focus of someone working to get away of what he doesn't want in his life (not to mention how little value he must feel for himself if he's using his precious time like that) vs the focus of someone (also in school) who's focusing on what he wants. It may seem like a small difference but I believe where you put your attention greatly influences what effects you will get. Inb4 bad english, it's my 2nd language.
#29 - anonymous poster (10/28/2012) [-]
No, beggar is entirely correct in his statement, schools are now no more a place of education as a place to entertain people. When I went to high school a few years ago the quality of education was simply shocking, there was no ground work for future studies, instead schools have the mindset that, if you need to know it for a course in uni, then you will be taught that matter in uni. That's how bridging courses came to be
