That could be part of it since in the states we have thin crust, regular, and deep dish. Maybe our pizzas are also more laden with cheese and other toppings. Idk man, just a cultural difference I suppose.

A large is typically about 16 inches 40.64 cm and most places offer deals that make a large cheaper than small or medium. That being said a large is seen as too much to eat in a single sitting by yourself.
