As someone who can't help out friends who are new to the game due to soul memory, I actually miss the level system. While baby seal clubbing(crushing new players) was a bit of an issue in DkS1 and I remember my first time going through Sen's Fortress was made a hell-ride by a few invaders, I kind of miss the level system for invasions. It wasn't flawless, granted, but I hit the top tier of soul memory(at which point the range in which you fight is huge) with one of my characters and found myself extremely frustrated as a level 150 being matched up against level 300+s in PvP. Skill is still the main factor in the fights of course, even with the level difference, but when someone has at least 40 in all stats they have more room to adapt as far as builds go.

That said, I understand why from decided to change it to soul memory. After watching this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoyA9viJpaQ I got a better understanding of how awful it was for some people starting the first Dark Souls.

How does one accidentally kill an NPC???

If this end up happening to you, though, just go to Cromwell the Pardoner in Brightstone Cove. He'll pardon your sins for a relatively small fee.

Also, while I respect that you have your own opinion on invaders, invasions can be really fun for both parties involved. If you've been playing the Souls series for a long time and the conclusion you've come to is that you hate them that's a shame, but if you're new they're probably going to grow on you. There's something really thrilling about having an unpredictable enemy to fight, particularly when you're on the NG+ and over playthroughs. That's just my opinion though.

Hope you're having a fun playthrough

Yeah I get you, and I actually killed an NPC by putting down my control
Also I'm not new at all and I'm not saying they're always assholes, I guess BUT my real problem is that I encountered them mostly in DS1 and for whatever reason people enjoyed staying the same level then invading completely new players... those guys are scum. But in the later areas they aren't AS bad. Also I'm really glad DS2 is off soul memory not Level

To be fair, the guy in the video is a blue sentinel. He's invading invaders.

Yeah, but even with them I'm kinda on edge about because you accidentally kill an NPC and sudden four of those fuckers are on your ass

Invading is part of the game, it's what makes it more challenging. The only reason to be online if you don't want to deal with the full extent of the game(invasions) is to be helped by summons. Invasions are fun for both parties involved as long as you keep in mind that it's just a fucking game

fair enough. Thanks for the downvote anyway.
