It's Africa's fault, not that of blacks OR white dems. Africa has large amounts of game, large areas of jungle and savanna, and mild weather. All of these areas are survivable with basic knowledge, there's not really any conditions that lead to real civilization.

Compare this to regions where civilization actually developed: The Middle-East, Asia, India, and Europe. These regions have one thing in common: for one reason or another they are inhospitable without basic technology. India has the monsoons and heavy rainfall, the Middle East is mainly desert, Asia and Europe both have strong winters. You have to have some form of technology and shelter, and the better both are the better you tend to do. In Africa on the other hand, there is no particular reason for the development of either. Tribes were typically far away from each other, so warfare wasn't really common. The weather is relatively mild, so advanced shelters aren't really necessary. Game is rather common and can be easily followed, so the development of agriculture and infrastructure is redundant.

This is the simple answer: blacks didn't achieve civilization until whites arrived because there was no need for civilization until whites arrived. For whites, asians, and arabs to survive where they did they had to develop forms of civilization in order to thrive.

Wait, what? There were a number of African civilizations and empires throughout history (Ancient Egyptians, Axum Empire, Ethiopian Empire, etc.)
If you wanna talk about adverse climates, look up the Garamantes, who built up a flourishing kingdom in the middle of the Sahara Desert by about ~150CE: archive.archaeology.org/0403/abstracts/sands.html

We're not talking about people who just happened to move into Africa, who capitalized on what was already there, or who specifically developed in regions that met the conditions outlined before. The Garamantes stole from the Carthaginians, who were Phoenician. Not to mention that they developed in the fucking SAHARAN DESERT, which certainly meets the conditions of "mildly unlivable locale". The Egyptians also developed in the middle of a desert, on the banks of the Nile, and were forced to develop an advanced society and military force to compete with other tribes, especially those out of the Middle East. As for Aksum and Ethiopia, I don't know much about their history so I can't really comment, but I'd assume that similar conditions would apply there as well.

Actually this is a pretty astute observation. Looking at the development of human society and technology through hardship. Africa as a land of plenty, a paradise. I can see that all human needs are being met food, water, shelter.

I would like to go to Africa one day, not to visit the cities but the vast open areas. People who live like their ancestors did for centuries and are happy. There is great poverty in those nations but their people are rated as being much happier than people of developed countries.

There are few hardships in world anymore, yet we continue to develop and invent. I don't think that's it. Also, Africa is rated as one of LEAST happiest places to be. What are you talking about?

The book has an overly simplified view of colonialism in general, but its basic premise is correct, that much I'll admit.

For introducing white culture but not reinforcing strong conservative ideals, sure.
