That's the thing that most rustle my jimmies or whatever... Why in hell it's YOUR title? People get married long before christianity, people celebrated the winter solstice long before Christmas was shoved down our throats. 2000 years of christianity don't gave you the right to call everything you like "yours"

All that I stated were opinions of mine. I hope I satisfied your original discussion point. If not, I apologize for the random tangent of opinion and thought. I tend to do that from time to time.

As much as I want to, I have no definitive answer. This is one of many peoples basis for not having a religion. To be honest, I don't know for sure. I have my own idea of how things work, which I will try to state if you would like to read. If not you may stop reading here.

Basically, we have choice. When we were put here, we made a choice to "eat the fruit" and we have been set down on a path ever since. The basis behind us having a choice is unknown, but one possible reason is a which would you prefer type deal. Let us say you have a child. Would you prefer that child to do what is right in the world and be a good person simply because he/she was told to, or would you rather that child be good and the best they can be because they feel it is the right thing to do. I feel that I would rather my child understand the difference in what is right and wrong, and make the decision for itself to follow that path. When they are doing nothing but what they are told simply because they were told, there is no satisfaction.

The way I feel that God fits in to all of this, is that he doesn't make the choices for us. He does send influence, just like Satan would. Sometimes strong, sometimes weak. If a man rapes a woman, it is not Satan's doing, but rather the man. Yet this does not mean he didn't have slight influence that helped him to make that decision. The same could be said for God's influence as well. Maybe he made that day especially nice so that the men who sailed wanted to. Maybe he put something dangerous off to the side of one of the ship's paths so as to alter the course in a desired direction. In all things that happen, there is cause and effect. When someone dies, there are those that will suffer, yet there are those that may profit. Such as the manager at a very nice store passes in his sleep. His family and friends will mourn, but maybe that is the stroke of luck another needed to get his life on track. Certain things in life are (cont...)

meant to happen. There are different paths you can take, and what kind of person when you reach the landing is up to you. However, certain things are just meant to happen. The how and why may be up to you, but the occurance is not. Maybe you were meant to learn a valuable life lesson, and because of paths you and several other people take, someone gets hurt. Then instead of learning it on your own, you may learn it through suffering. What you make of the lesson, is also up to you. Whether you better yourself, or let yourself fall into the darkness of man is what you take of it. An example could be, maybe the lesson was learned after a friend was raped. This doesn't mean that the rape was meant to happen, or that it was a good thing. Instead, maybe it was the diliverance of the message that was layed out after your choices and the choices of those involved made. Had things been different, maybe someone else would have been hurt, maybe you, maybe someone would have hit the lottery, or even maybe someone new could appear in life. Despite the specific event, the lesson was shown. At the end of the day, it all boils down to this. There is no excuse for what you do. There can be reasons, there can even be things that made you feel the way you did when you make a choice. However, no one but you will be to blame, or to thank for what you do. Just because you were beat as a child, doesn't mean you beat your children. You could choose either to praise them, to beat them, or to give them up out of fear of yourself. In the end, the choice is always made by you when it comes to your actions.

When you don't give that man on the corner your money for a quick bite, when we as a country don't help out third world countries, or when you flick off that guy in traffic. That was a choice made by man (speaking generally, not choosing sexes as one over another).
