Printers use the CMYK, RGB is used for television and electronics.

So once a digital artist creates something in, let us say photoshop, they will have to convert the image to CMYK for the advertisers or t-shirt printers. There is more then that but for now it's simplified to ink requires CMYK and computers mainly use RGB.
