length of the song. The idea that it is a verse still needs to be there though. To me, most of the riffs vaguely have the same idea as the last, but not enough to keep it all feeling intact. That makes it less of a song, in sense of structure, into more of just a riff-mania with lyrics over it.

I said those things because you said they were hardcore, implying that they are not metalcore when infact they are. Now, my arguement, Almost every song from them, except a certain few, Have every section of a songs that a song needs, now being that they are metalcore, there usually is no chorus and or anything of the like, their songs are very dynamic when compared to other bands, so in theory, they have unstructured songs, but in reality, their songs are very pleasing to listen to, as long as thats what you are into.

Now you seem to be speaking more open-mindedly when it's something you enjoy. I wasn't meaning to imply they aren't metalcore, i was using hardcore as a generalization. Like with how I said A7X is metal, when you think metal, you don't think Black Sabbath or Alice in Chains or anything of the like any more, you think more along the lines of Devildriver, Lamb of God, etc., that's why I was saying A7X is more tradition-style metal. That was a fault on my part, they're [Metal or Hardcore] both huge umbrellas for many genre's falling under the main idea.

I have no problem with there being no chorus, and I understand that since most of the stanzas in their lyrics would be considered "verses" it would get old having the same riff going the whole

lol, Lamb of God, lmfao, THEE band with the worst structured songs... Metalcore is a genre defined by technical riffs, growled vocals and intense drumming, I am pretty damn sure Parkway Drive has plenty of that... Parkway Drive has been called, "the new standard of Metalcore" so you calling them hardcore is a joke...
User avatar #24 - mayfield (02/10/2011) [-]
I don't see at all how you could say they have the worst structured songs, there is a clear verse riff, clear chorus, clear bridge, etc. You know what's going on in the song, and though it may throw you a curveball, it doesn't run off into insanity with unimportant run-off riffs. Hardcore is to hard rock what metalcore is to metal to me, hardcore is just more punk influenced. I never said in any way that Parkway drive didn't have "technical riffs, growled vocals and intense drumming," so you bringing that up has no point whatsoever. I said they have little-to-no structure, which you still haven't been able to argue.

What i'm finding ironic, is that you're calling A7X and MCR 'shit music', when both of them actually have structure to their songs, unlike most metalcore.
User avatar #16 - mayfield (02/10/2011) [-]
A7X's newer material, like I said, is traditional-style metal.

Parkway Drive is hardcore, for you to call THEM metal is just ignorant. Yes, they're MORE metal than A7X by today's standards, but they're all breakdown. There's so little structure to their song, just riff after riff thrown together with the vague some ideas as the previous one. Parkway Drive is decent, but not my cup of tea, they have such a lack of structure that I just can't get in to that.

As I Lay Dying is a lot similar, except they're actually decent outside of their completely tremelo-picked chord progressions and attempted breakdown after breakdown.

My favorites are Sevendust, Machine Head, In Flames, Pantera, and Lamb of God (mostly post As The Palaces Burn).

completely fair, no one has to like any band. but it pisses me off when people stereotype mcr fans as gay emos. im not a massive fan of slayer or megadeth, but i dnt say all their fans are gay. and u can thumb me down as much as u like, doesnt make me wrong :)

That's true, but most people are so close-minded that they won't look past the stereotype before giving it judgment. People like different things for different reasons, and just because something is considered a part of a different 'culture' doesn't mean it completely belongs there.

Yeah I like how when people on here disagree, for the most part, they just thumb you down because they have no good arguments to add. It's the same way with Avenged Sevenfold, I love that band's newer albums, but since their old stuff was so screamo/hardcore associated, when they got big it was mainly the 'emos' that liked them. So though their new stuff is purely traditional metal, a lot of the metal community rejects them based on what they assume them to be, and a lot of people throw them into the emo category just because a good amount of their fans were indeed emo when they were coming out.
