Because it makes you look equal parts desperate for acceptance (which is pathetic) and defensive of your work (which implies that you know it is sub par).

It isn't like the comments were directed at you in particular, you just choose to respond to general comments. Which is a tad strange really, most other posters don't and for good reason.
