Did you watch the most recent Republican debate? Mitt Romney couldn't even answer a question involving the Constitution. Congressman don't even have to read the bills they vote on. A few years ago, my AP Gov. class stumped a Senator and his aide on some questions we asked him when he came to see our class.

The seats of the House and Senate were never supposed to be careers at all. As intended by the Founding Fathers, common men would step up and do their service for their country and go back to whatever they were doing before they had been elected.

Yeah, there are some rare career politicians that are good, but term limits would make everything so much better.

So...not, its not a double sided sword. And actually, name off some of these career politicians who are good at their jobs?

if we did everything the founding fathers intended, then where would we be? very small gov't. hell, according to George Washington, we shouldn't have political parties. im not going to pass judgement on whether all their ideas were good. will pass judgement on whether they are relevant of this time period of a country ocean to ocean with huge ties to the rest of the world. so i wouldn't want your average Joe who doesn't know the system running things at the top of the government. i want someone who knows how government works inside and out, and experience counts for a lot for that

The US is built on the foundations of fucking civil liberty. As soon as you go against that and go conservative, your basically limiting freedom and going against the countries' beliefs.
