It was definitely a good movie if you consider it alone and ignore the source material, but it was pretty frustrating to watch because I liked the books a lot.

I didn't care for it, but at least the first movie had some small semblance to the book.
The second movie looks like they just took the names of the characters from the second book and then made a completely unrelated movie in a world that is slightly similar to that of the maze runner wasteland

US congress are all a bunch of kids, this is how i imagine it going.
person A: did you hear, there is a new law that can cure world hunger.
Person B; really?, thats fantastic
Person A: the idea came from a republican
Person B: then it cant be good, every democrat vote against the new law

But what if the World Hunger Fund supported their campaign last year? Then they have to vote for it. Because that's technically not bribery. Just good manners.
