Alright, I get it, you guys think religion is a terrible crime perpetrated by humanity on it's self. If it weren't some fanatical religious person it would be a fanatical citizen of the neighboring country. People are violent. They use religion as a scapegoat for their violence and you people let them do it. Can we please just come out and say what it is? Some people are assholes and they'll use whatever reason they can to justify their assholeness.

I guess when entire countries go to war with other countries there are no assholes involved in the process, and everything they're doing to justify their asshole tendencies are totally illegal. And the groups of assholes are really small and spread out with no central command structure.

But since they use religion as their cover/scapegoat/justified excuse, a lot of people let them get away with it.

And isn't it kinda odd how so many of them are muslim? I mean, stereotypes grow from experience. We've seen muslims commit one terror attack after another, why wouldn't we think they could do it again, and expect them to?

Sure, people are assholes, but it just confuses me why the batch isn't more mixed up. Why isn't some random guy from around the street blowing shit up? Why is it, that the worst people christianity has to offer these days, is KKK and Westboro? I mean sure, they assholes and I don't like them, but they stick to hate speech and don't blow shit up, because someone doesn't agree with them.

You can insult Westboro, and they might picket your fucking funeral. Insult islam, and you might get shanked in the street or have your country blown up.

Right now it's the Muslims. Years ago it was the Russians. Then it was the Chinese briefly. In 50 years it'll be some other group of asshats. Just my personal experience. That's how the world spins man. Groups of people take turns being assholes. Look at your history. Most of the time it's one major group who's causing all the distress in the world.

Russia never bombed civilians. So already there you can see a big difference between those goat fuckers and vodka chuggers.

Based on what? Countries have banned religion before and spawned no end of fanatics. Atheists have run into churches before and killed everyone they could lay eyes on. Fanatics will always exist.

I disagree. People are violent in my experience regardless of their ideology. Every day you sit across the table from a psychopath. That person has something that will set them off. Maybe it's their religious beliefs, maybe it's their political leanings, maybe they're racist. Everyone has something that they'll kill for and then sleep like a baby later that night.

Alright, and you don't get that I disagree with you. Without religion people would be just as violent. That's my opinion on the matter. Since there is no definitive evidence to back up either of our claims this comes down to an argument between two opinions.

I really doubt that some other group would have attacked Paris if the extremists hadn't done it. I didn't realize you were actually serious about asking the question though, since its such a specific thing. I doubt that some other group was busy planning to attack and making the same plan, rubbing their hands together and cackling maniacally only to be beaten to the punch. That's just too montey python for me.

Hey, you're the one who claimed that the world would be less violent without religion. I said I happen to disagree with you. Neither of us have the ability to actually prove our positions because neither of us have been to an alternate reality where religion doesn't exist. I don't think you can prove one way or another this point. I just happen to disagree with you.

So what, violence has to be spread out in exactly the same pattern all the time? That just doesn't work. That's like trying to follow a photon. You can't do it because observing it changes it. Even the slightest change to the world would cause different things to happen. A lack of religion isn't a small change. It's a big one. If religion stopped existing tomorrow, I'll bet you would get about 24 hours of peace.

There is no evidence to say that violence would not continue on the scale that it is currently enjoying. Logic can't come in to play because neither of us have an example from witch to base our claims. We're literally just going to go back and forth with this until one of us gets tired. You're suggesting that for my claim to be of merit the world would have to be exactly the same in every way except that religion wouldn't exist. I think that's too far even for you. Come now. Sure, Paris may not be attacked. We may not loose 120 lives at the same time, on the same day in the same place, but there would still be an equal measure of assholes in the world. Just because they use religion as their cloak doesn't mean they would be normal adjusted people without religion. They would still be the same people, assholes with a different cause.

I do genuinely believe that religion does more good than harm. Of all the hundreds of religions around the world, how many are openly killing people? How many religious leaders are demanding that their congregation go out and kill people, then hand out guns after the sermon is over?

You can't bargain with assholes. They are either an asshole or they are not. There's not much room for middle ground. You either want to kill people for their beliefs or you don't. Political beliefs or religious beliefs. Look at all the wars (or, peace keeping) taking place around the world. How many of these conflicts are rooted in religion?
