That first one explains this, otherwise we'd be confused as shit. But then "my son has two moms" after we've already established that they're a lesbian couple has literally no relevance to anything that was said. It would have been exactly the same as if it started at "there was a "special guy in your life" day at his school" and we would have known exactly why because as I said earlier, the very first sentence established that this is a lesbian couple which wouldn't have a male parent to bring to the Father's Day thing.  She reiterated it because it was relevant to the story. There is literally nothing wrong with reminding your readers of something that has been previously established, if it becomes relevant again and you want to make sure they understand the context that requires them to have that knowledge. Honestly, you act like there's some quota that they're allowed to mention it. Nobody would give a flying fuck if this was a post where some guy used the phrase "my girlfriend" 4 times. #15 -
gameofpwned (07/04/2015) [-] It's pretty relevant in this instance. She mentions she has a wife, and then says that she was pregnant, so it makes sense to clarify that she's a lesbian. She talks about the grandpa going to her son's school for Fathers Day event instead of a father... so it makes sense to clarify that she's a lesbian.  The stereotype is that old people are almost universally homophobic, so it's kind of understandable why it's mentioned. I mean shit if you heard half the things my grandfather says (although granted he tries to make everything funny. Example: Him: "I just don't get science" Me: "Well it's all about learning new ways to advance as a species" Him: "But why?" Me: "Because we want to explore the stars and colonise other planets" Him: "But what about things like the big collision thing in Switzerland?" Me: "You mean the Hadron Collider?" Him: "Yes! I just don't get it, what's it for?!" Me: "It's to figure out how the universe strated" Him: "But WHY?" Me: "To find out about particles we don't know much about" Him: "BUT WILL IT STOP THE BLOODY IMMIGRANTS?!" Nope, my grandad is just painfully sarcastic all the time. I visit every Thursday and this is the kind of thing that goes on (that and me fixing whatever problem he's having on his simulator games). Unfortunately I don't carry a video camera with me everywhere I go so I can't prove this happened, but I swear on my life it did and I was nearly crying with laughter. | ||
