lol, just do the basecoat with the airbrush, then use brushes for every thing else. Those big models are useful to use the airbrush on

ive never used stencils that small so i couldnt really tell you much on that.
as for freehand i would say you might want to get a pinstriping brush

bought it second hand for like 10€, the previous owner seemed to be some kid who used the TANK so test his color sceme (used to be red with white scribbles) but it looked like he primed the modell in red anti-rust coating.
well long story short i made it my project of 2014, took me about 3 half days to fix it, do fix it (lost parts), convert it and paint it (hard to see in the pic but since the previous paint hurt the modell so much the armored parts got a interesting texture, was a blast to drybrush it in like 10 different colors)
i'll post more of my stuff if you like (noit eversthing is 40K) but not until i got more natural light, photos in the dark suck
