It makes people think that society's problems are being solved when they aren't, and companies aren't obligated to actually do what they're trying to look like they're doing. This is a sociological nightmare.

Also, rational self interest isn't automatically capitalistic.
User avatar #14 - manofbeardliness (02/15/2015) [-]
Philanthropy doesn't cause negative effects on the recieving end. It doesn't mean there isn't self interest involved on the providing side, but usually at least in the short run they end up in the red only gaining socio/political returns. Just because things aren't as pure as people would like them, doesn't mean it isn't generally positive. Also the court of law and federal government does regulate companies pretty strictly. Can confirm, have a lot of business owners in the family.

Monetary rewards aren't always the incentives. An incentive is a motivator, to reinforce particular behaviors. The rewards all depend on the individuals value of the gain. Some people are motivated to teach so they can educate kids/teens/adults, while getting the luxury of summer and winter off. But there's an opportunity cost in that they don't get as much money. The reward to most teachers is the fact that they're educating future generations, not that they're going to make a lot of money. In relation to salary, people work the most efficiently when they find the line in between need and comfort. If they get too much, they get complacent, if they get to little they, either move on or under perform.

What the fuck is this? There is no data backing this half assed bias joke of an "article". The entire foundation of capitalism is based off of the basic fact that people act best given an incentive. It's not some delusional nonsense that we can will ourselves into some utopia where everyone wins. Look at group projects for example. The idea is that a group of people work together to achieve one good grade. But the reality hits when the difference in the individual comes into play. Usually what happens is the hard working end up compensating for the lazy because the lazy get the same results as the hard working.
