but what if a huge portion of our debt bought us ammunition, vehicles and weaponry.

When we go to war we will have your supplies and you will have our "money." How is that useful for you?

User avatar #203 - lordofthesea (03/24/2014) [-]
not to mention the fact that either certain, or every single Ship(s) in the US fleet carry enough ammunition to support CONTINUOUS fire from every single battery and individual aboard said Ship(s) for 30 days. Source? experience. dead ass serious.

Whether you realize it or not, the United Stated DOMINATES the oceans, and it's our seapower that makes us remain a world power more than anything else. Our aircraft carriers alone allow us to mobilize an entire army practically anywhere in the world at any time, with reinforcements swiftly on the way.

Yeah, I'm convinced that the US could take on the entire world at sea. The air-force and navy of the US is unmatched.

We know how to address it, just the lawmakers aren't doing anything about it lol. You are 100% correct about us being in a bubble and not wanting to spend. So, how do we get out? Make our environment more job friendly and get people back to work. Get money back in their pockets so they can spend it. Reduce our surplus of labor so employees won't fear losing their jobs and going broke.

How? Lower taxes, cut spending, increase tariffs on foreign goods(China) so we can start manufacturing in this country again. Also, abolish NAFTA. It's pretty easy and straight forward, the Fed however, both sides, want to inflict as much pain as they can on us and just keep pointing fingers back and forth so they can keep their own jobs.
User avatar #38 - manofbeardliness (03/24/2014) [-]
I agree and disagree, It's not the governments fault that we're not addressing the issues it's the ignorance of the general populis. Yes there is greed and corruption within the government. Still, the people are the ones with the power the problem is they have shoved too much responsibility at the government and play blissfully ignorant while the government bears all of the responsibility. If people collectively brought up their knowledge than recovery would be a far smoother.

I blame the people far more than the lawmakers.
#53 - pyrusd (03/25/2014) [-]
And I blame the lawmakers in this position. Granted yes we are wayyy too lazy as a people and we have pushed a lot of it on them. But if they were responsible, they could fix it since they actually have the power to do so. Instead they spend all of their time convincing people that no one has the power at all. When something bad happens they just shrug and go....well wtf do you think we know about this? And then they raise their zealots against people who combat them to keep them quiet.
User avatar #54 - manofbeardliness (03/25/2014) [-]
Yea true as that may be, that's predictable human behavior. If you give a person too much unchecked power they're more than likely going to be corrupted by it. They're acting on impulse because nobody really says otherwise. If more people were aware on what's going on and didn't turn a blind eye than these assholes abusing the system would have their collars snatched and tightened. Instead, they're allowed to do whatever they want because the people are blissfully ignorant. The people just bend over and act like they're saying "use me, I'm too stupid to do anything about it anyway".
#55 - pyrusd (03/25/2014) [-]
I would say it's a tough call at that point because we have brought these issues to them and they haven't done anything. And by that I mean....a politician, statesmen, police officer, what have you could have violated the law and we will take that to the proper agency for reporting and then nothing gets done about it. So we have controls in place to fix these things, but they aren't working and after a while of HELP HELP HELP...no one's coming, well no point in calling for help then.

Damn near no one in office or employed by the state wants to do their job anymore. Quick example.

I was on a movie set as an extra, I was 27 at the time, and there was a 14 year old kid there. I was talking with some guys and he came over and we included him in our little group. His gay father was there with his boyfriend and other friends, to which they called over the 14 year old boy and started holding him and rubbing him. I figured uhhhh weird. Father keeps introducing him to other gay men who continue to do the same, holding, rubbing, grabbing his ass and so on. I figure that's really weird so I call child services because he could be being abused at home. Child services asks me, "why does a 27 year old know a 14 year old?" I met him on a movie set, he was an extra with me when these guys started rubbing him. "Oh so you see this kid in public a lot, don't you think that's weird for a 27 year old to be hanging out with a 14 year old?" So I hung up at that point.

Moral is I tried and it fell on deaf ears and people tried turning me into the bad guy for it. No point in calling back.

User avatar #4 - lolollo (03/23/2014) [-]
I understand what socialism is, right down to the fact that not every aspect of it is going to work, but that's every ideology on some level. I just find the idea that we can't do something because "some other ideology!" allows it to be stupid as hell. If something from socialism works, let's fucken do it. Hell, if something from fascism works, let's fucken do that to. Just because we've borrowed an idea from some ideology doesn't mean the country is now run by that ideology.
#22 - pyrusd (03/24/2014) [-]
Socialism is often completely mis-defined these days and I wish it wasn't Socialism is when the means of production are in the hands of the people and goods are made for use rather than for profit. Now, what people forget, is that this may or may not be all encompassing. It never mentions a degree to which this is implemented.

For example, products for use. Meaning we produce goods strictly to be used and fit the needed demand. We do that now, to a degree. The easiest way to figure out which parts of our economy (in the US) are social is to look at the taxes. If taxes pay for it, it's social. Meaning we all pay for the same goods and services provided based on our demand. Things like Police, the Army, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, Highways, garbage removal, and the list goes on. Everything that our taxes pay for is social(ized) which people seem to forget.

So our economy is somewhat social BUT in a Social Market Economy, like parts of Europe, they have taxes paying for more things. So just as you said about the country being run by an ideology, they're not. Not a single country on the planet is actually strictly one philosophy BUT (here's the problem) everyone assumes that they are. China is COMMUNIST....well mostly. Europe is SOCIALIST, well moreso than us. AMERICA IS RUN BY CAPITALISM. Not entirely.

Free market? Nope. If we had a free market there would be no "social programs and regulations" like OSHA, 40 hour work week, overtime, child labor laws, minimum wage, fraud protections and on and on. So we don't even have absolute capitalism, and we shouldn't.
User avatar #5 - manofbeardliness (03/23/2014) [-]
Well that's what the U.S does to degree... We've taken ideas from other economic systems and instilled it into our own. Our problem isn't that we're not socialists or that we don't have free healthcare, it's more-so that there's a new normal that we just haven't been able to wrap our heads around on how to address it effectively. The U.S economic crisis happened because we were spending/making too much money that was illiquid and we couldn't inflate the economy in a way that wouldn't completely fuck our value so we had to rely on foreign aid. The reason we haven't bounced back is because of a psychological bubble that has people reluctant to spend any money therefor not stimulating the economy. We're stagnant and don't know how to address it.

Sorry if I went on a tangent, just wanted to throw that out there.
#23 - pyrusd (03/24/2014) [-]

There are important things to have.

1. The mean (add them all then divide by 40) = E(X)
2. Variance = E(X^2) - E(X) ^2

To find the pth percentile, use the following steps:

P( X - E(x) / sqrt(var(X))) = .01 * p

So if you want the top 10 percent you have
P( X < score - E(X) / sqrt(var(X))) = .1

finding the inverse is easy, there should be calculators.

P*(.1) * var(X) + E(X) = score

any score lower than this is in the bottom percentile. Apply the same for p = .3, .7, and .9
