You see nothing wrong with that?

We've never said "ENGLISH IS OURS", we've only adjusted it to the way we speak. If something that has very little to do with you bothers you that much, than you have some shit to work out. I find it sooooo ironic when Brits have the audacity to claim that Americans are too prideful and arrogant. Anybody that considers a language that roughly 27% of the over 6-1/2 billion people in the world speak is theirs to control is pretty damn arrogant.

By all means, if you can paint that good I'll be the first to buy the Mona-Lisa off of you.

What's so wrong with making something your own? I can understand the frustration of going on a website or something and when it shows English but only with an American flag. That's understandable and fair, but the spelling/pronunciation argument is stupid because what it all comes down to is American English is progressive and evolves and British English is mostly unchanging and traditional. Most Americans don't see anything wrong with either When they're used properly , making the British the aggressors and therefor assholes about it.

Stop. You're wrong about the origin.

Britain was invaded by Latin speakers before Germanic. The language is a mix of primarily French, one dialect of German (probably middle or high German, Roman Empire era Latin, Spanish, Danish and Swedish, to name a few. Remember Wales and Scotland have their own languages, and the similarities between English and Welsh cannot be ignored.

We never claim to have completely coined the language, however no other country can claim to have come up with English, it was a group effort. But you know what England then did? Spread it over 90% of the globe. You know who didn't change the language at all? Every other British colony.
User avatar #262 - manofbeardliness (04/14/2014) [-]
So basically the British butthurt over U.S's changes/adjustments subtle, mind you are based off of the pride that a group effort led to English but the British delivered it around the world, so therefor it's trademarked? As for the history lesson, I was making a point on the fact that it was partially brought over and evolved into what's spoken today. Some of the most iconic pieces of literature that is considered early English came from the Northern Europeans.
User avatar #273 - Loppytaffy (04/14/2014) [-]

Psychology is still a growing science. We can't be sure how to screen for deranged lunatics. It would take years just for one symptom to pop up in an FBI database. Then it would take even longer to screen and ponder if that one symptom is enough to warrant an pre-emptive arrest.
Guns, however, are not as immaterial an object to control. Ok, lets say Subject A passed a psyche test to buy a gun. He went for a mental evaluation every 6 months to pass for his license. But, in those 6 months, lets say he got fired, he lost his wife, dog, and the unborn child. He snapped, and shoot up a school prep rally.
The police check his background, seems like he is still a grade A to own a gun, his psyche holds out. But that was 6 months ago, the data is not valid now.
How about just control the thing that can be controlled?
Is it that hard just to let go that insane obsession with guns?

Still, people were killed.
User avatar #19 - manofbeardliness (04/13/2014) [-]
Yea and that's really sad, but bastardizing responsible people for the actions of the mentally unstable is foolish. The lack of treatment for the mentally ill in the U.S is far worse than our loose gun laws. Since Sandy Hook, there's been a lot of tightening on gun laws which is fine , but nothing has been done about mental health help. That's because everyone went apeshit over just the guns. Almost all incidents involving school shootings (in the entire world), the perp was either being treated for psychological illnesses or were diagnosed but fit the criteria for having a mental breakdown.
