"give unto Ceasar what is Ceasars and unto God what is Gods" Nothing of the sort in the Qu'ran, it doesn't seperate state politics with religion

where atleast there is something in the bible you can strongly point to for argueing the seperation of church and state (what became a very important feature in western civilisation)

whereas Islam has Sharia law, whereas the 10 commandments don't include rules on how and who to brutalise

Christianity had routes which could be used to reform it, with the help of seperate cultural developments in these countries but Islam is SO in need of a reformation, but that does not look like it will come for a very, very long time

Yeah, yeah, it's true. Most religions are pretty retarded and you can find contradictory quotes in a bunch of them. That's not really the important take away. What matters is how people who practice the religion interpret it.

When it comes to religion, there is no objective way to categorize it. It's fluid. Pope's have changed the catholic church's stance on issues all the time.

I'm a lot less concerned about what some quote in a holy book says. But when you survey believers of the faith whether or not they support death for changing religions....that's the kind of thing that matters.

How many Christians do you know that actually support stoning someone for cheating? Because, if you ask self-proclaimed Muslims in Pakistan, 86% would say 'Yup, stone them to death!'

Nobody is going to say that all Muslims are the same, even within the same country not all Muslims agree on everything. And from one country to another, the differences are even more pronounced. But there is a freakishly large percentage of Muslims who currently hold some pretty fucked up beliefs.

In Egypt, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Jordan, and Malaysia the *majority* of Muslims surveyed supported death for leaving Islam. This isn't some quote from a holy book that might be misinterpreted. This is going up to people who say they are Muslim and asking them, 'So hey, if someone follows Islam for a while, and then decides they believe in something else, would you support murdering them?' And they say 'Yes'.

People want to compare religions. I think it's stupid, but I'm agnostic, so whatever. But even Muslims are more afraid of Muslims than Christians.

'45% of respondents said they worried mostly about Muslim extremists groups'
'6% of respondents said they worried mostly about Christian extremists groups'

The list goes on and on. You can Google it and read all about it, if you want. It's a lot more important and meaningful than cherry picking quotes from holy books. I've heard that Christians aren't supposed to mix cloth in their outfits or something. I don't know many Christians who care about that. What I care about, is what modern Christians actually believe in. And well, the honest truth is, modern Muslims - not a few extremists - but the MAJORITY of Muslims around the world support a lot of really f***ed up things.

40% of Muslims in the Palestinian territories said attacking civilian targets to defend Islam is often or sometimes justified. On top of that, another 18% said they were 'often' justified. That's almost 60% of Muslims in the Palestinian territories that are cool with attacking civilian targets, at least sometimes.

An insanely high percentage of Muslims support honor killings. If your daughter has sex before marriage - kill her. That's what they actually believe. 45% of Muslims in Lebanon think it's alright to go ahead and kill her.

You're a smart guy (or girl), I'm sure you can find a quote that says something about forgiveness Qur'an, and you could probably also find a quote that says something about honor killings. What matters is what Muslims *actually believe*. And, 45% of Muslims in Lebanon think honor killings are cool.

90% of honor killings in the EU and US are Muslims killing Muslims. That's what matters. What's actually being done.

I think both religions are equally silly, but right now (not 2000 years ago) Muslims are fucking things up a lot more than Christians.

Old Testament is fucked and is for the most part talking about stories rather than giving religious instructions to the average believer.

Those passage just seem to be saying that man in general is violent. The only one that actually commands violence seems to be a specific event. The passages provided by lech are advocating or commanding violence from it's believers.

So do away with all religions with such rules.
Or, realize that people are inherently violent, and we should glass the planet.

"If ISIS/Taliban/Al Qaeda ever read the Quran, they would know too." But in fact, they did read the Quran. They read it quite thoroughly as it appears.

I never said the teachings of Christianity (especially the old testament) isn't as evil as the Quran. But the claim that Islam is a religion of peace is unfounded. Sure. It can be a religion of peace if we ignore several passages in the Quran just like we ignore them in Christianity, but that doesn't mean that those passages are not being taught by ISIS, the Taliban, and Al Qaeda.
