Thousands of rings that were used to bind husband and wive, now bound together to protect you. And the soul of these shall protect you, as one would never want their ring to be cut apart. That only makes the statement more true -ërish
#117 - imgood (11/27/2013) [-]
I'ma disagree with that one, I'm like 90% sure there were casualties in the battle for France. A lot fo people say the French just gave up but what really happened was a combination of suprise that the Germans invaded throught Belgium (where French defences didn't reach), and the first use of Blitzkrieg (lightning attack). The Germans surrounded the French and British armies so fast that they had no choice but to surrender, France still fought on throughout the war (its people, not its government, as the Germans controlled the northern parts of France, and the southern parts couldn't do much but hold out, though they did kick the crap out of the Italian invasion). So really Frances reputation of giving up is almost entirely based on false claims. Anywhooo.... i'm pretty sure people died before Germany krieged the fuck outta france
#161 - anonymous (11/27/2013) [-]
What happened, was that the French were expecting the same kind of trench based war as WWI, relying on their Maginot Line, which the germans completely countermanded by the ir Blitzkrieg tactic, using railroads for good and fast mobility for their troops. This took the french by surprise.

They surrender because they are cowards. They acted like a bitch in 1938 when munich pact was signed (Their ally, Czechoslovakia, my country, lost most of our fortress and we knew england, france and russia, all of our allies will not come to help), then again when Poland (their ally) was attacked.
In the eyes of my nation none of them kept their promise and they betray us. That's why no-one in our country calls it MUNICH PACT we call it MUNICH TREASON.
tl:dr They got what they deserved. Cowards in my eyes.
#45 - jacksipian (11/27/2013) [-]
That was all Winston Churchill dude, he tried to appease Hitler by giving him Czechoslovakia in the hopes that they would stop there and wouldn't try to go to war with other nations, he was wrong of course and people were calling him stupid even at the time he did it, not everyone agreed with it. As for Poland, Hitler did a smart thing by dressing up German soldiers in Polish uniforms and attacking a German radio station, then when he invaded Poland, he said it was in retaliation to their attack. After that, it was the Blitzkrieg, so that illusion was broken

Yes it's Chamberlain fault but also Daladier.
It's more Daladier fault. Listen to this:
In time of munich treason we've got pact with france that they will come to help us in case of attack from Hungary or Germany. We've had pact with Soviets that they will help us IF France will help us. We've had "Little Entente" aka "baltic and mid-europe states military union" that would come to help us if we would be attacked by Hungary or Austria.
We have NO direct pact with Great Britain. But they would must come to help France due to Locarno Treaties.
I know that Britain was iniciator of "Give czechoslovaks to hitler" but in the end they booth signed munich and in the very end, France didn't help us as they were bound to do.
btw. Czechoslovaks military was 2nd to 3rd best in Europe that day. You can say for sure that only 2 coutries had modern army, Nazies and Czechoslovaks.
tl:dr They were bound to help us instead they stab us in the back, if they would have go to conflict they would have been supported by Soviets and Britain for sure. And WWII would'nt even happened (in nazi as evil one). And our nation would'nt be so bitter.
moreyouknow: Czechoslovaks had 2nd best military in europe. Czechoslovaks made Guiness world record for fastest mobilization in human history in 1938 (last time i checked 2009).

On September 23rd, 22:00 the mobilization has started. In 24 hour 4/5 of our troops were combat ready, it was 1 250 000 troops, 350 tanks 5000 artilery batteries and 950 combat planes. Our fortress was top class in Europe and even France take some technology we invented and use it in Maginet Line. But sadly fortress was'nt 100% complete in 1938 it would take another 5 years to completely finish line.
Our Armada was ready to fight till last breath and morale was very high.
Our army was ready but after Munich was signed they have to surrender their position and fall back to new positions, more in centre of republic, where not much fortress was build. (That's why Hitler want Sudety at first, because most of our defence potential was near border).
But one Fortress defended its perimeter, somehow their comunication wasn't function so they follow last order and they give them hell.
Well basically i don't know about it much but it was here i just don't study it much, they were well organized and helping ally as much as they can. They help hide a lot of paratroopers and jews. But most of our visible resistence happened outside our country. A lot of good czechoslovaks man fought in Battle of England as pilots (so as Polaks) and even more fought on other side under the czech flag in SSSR.
My opinion on the matter is:
Nazies would have defeat us within 4 week, if no-one would come to help we would loose. Nazi airforce was too strong. But we would give them a good fight. New study shows that Soviets was ready to rush to aid us but i don't know, i've never seen that document. After defeat Czech will be annexed by germany, slovaks would make their own state. After war we will be blame for starting a WW2 and Czechoslovakia (or czech) new borders would have been much smaller if any.
If you read it all, you're my kind of person.
#217 - jacksipian (11/28/2013) [-]
I'm your kind of person, i love history, i love learning about military history and cool stuff like that in other countries, i think i remember something about Hitler wanting the Sudetenland because of its defensive capability, but that was about all we talked about, i did not know there were czechs in the Battle of England, and is that how it translates in your language? SSSR? i've only heard of USSR (United Soviet Socialist Republics) and CCCP (some russian shit i can't type lol) If the soviets would've helped you out that would've changed the whole course of the war, thats very interesting. I doubt their comm equipment didn't work, it was probably more of a "fuck that, i'm not retreating" but thats very interesting
#218 - ketiw (11/28/2013) [-]
I'd like to think that too
SSSR = Svaz (that's something like a union) of Soviet Socialistic Republics.
Yeah i love history too, sometimes i feel ashamed when i find out how many people don't know anything about history not even their own nation history. I would kill every fucken swaggot who dare to say "History has happened it's no point in learning it"
#219 - jacksipian (11/28/2013) [-]
oh my god i know, thats the worst, i hate people who say that "thats the past, we're in the present, who cares? it doesnt matter anymore" im pretty sure theres a very famous fucking quote that says "Those who don't learn from history, are doomed to repeat it" and its interesting stuff i cant believe it when they say shit like that
#49 - jacksipian (11/27/2013) [-]
my bad, youre right, Winston Churchill was just the first name that popped into my head, i think he was one of the people ripping on that guys decision. “Chamberlain had the choice between war and shame. Now he has chosen shame – he’ll get war later.” Winston Churchill
thank you for that correction
#139 - Pred (11/27/2013) [-]
Let me correct that.. Being DUMB pussies. They could have build a proper defense line and held off the Germans before Britain would decide to help and Paris would remain untouched.
But apparently getting attacked through Belgium THIRD time in a row was too much of a fucking surprise.
Flippin croissant throwers got what they deserved.

They did this because the horrors of WWI still hung over them. The Kaiser had a huge artillery piece fire into the heart of Paris for days on end. It did little in relative terms, was inaccurate, and impractical, but the Paris Gun certainly did a lot to destroy civilian morale, as they couldn't even hear the artillery shot since it was so far away.
