moen (10/07/2015) [-] I'll admit the content isn't completely accurate. The part about the meat, lettuce and tomatoes (A.K.A the parts usually included in a regular burger) being DLC is an exaggeration of day one DLC being parts of the base game sectioned of just to sell separately at launch in order to squeeze extra money out of consumers. (A.K.A a digital version of the universally hated concept of on-disc DLC) The part about the bacon being a pre-order exclusive is probably a reference to some claims about good content being pre-order exclusive, and no longer available after launch, I can't think of a case where this happened, but Alien: Isolation supposedly almost did this with their original crew character skin pack.(no idea if they intended to have it available after launch all along, or if the backlash over the possibility forced them to do it) Some things are kinda true however. like the condiments being exclusive to certain retailers. An example of this is kingdoms of amalur, which has different flavor items depending on where you bought your copy, leading to a situation where it's impossible to acquire all the extra content. (A.K.A the concept that was combined with The bureau: XCOM declassified's crowdfund your pre-order bonus campaign, to create the aborted abomination known as Deus ex: mankind divided's "augment your pre-order" campaign) Also, the "then" part is really just an illustration of "ideal" DLC, like WOW expansions, non-itempack fallout DLC, non-skin borderlands DLC and many other that I can't remember I hope my sleep-deprived ramblings are coherent enough to be of some use to you. I agree for the most part, but to play devil's advocate for a minute there are instances of questionable DLC splitting off story parts. From Ashes, a story-and-a-new-companion addon for Mass Effect 3, launched day one of the game coming out and contained story elements that fans of the series wouldn't want to miss. It didn't affect anyone who purchased the collector's edition, as From Ashes came with that, but it could be easily argued that this was a pretty scummy tactic to get another 10-15 bucks out of consumers who were already paying $60 for the game. That being said, people have a tendency to complain about DLC no matter what form it comes in. There are definitely good and bad instances, but there's this mindset that if it's called DLC, it must be a ripoff. Meanwhile, "expansion packs", old-school DLC that cost more but usually added more are fantastic and we should have more of those. It's the same situation, where the value of the expansion really relies on nothing more than the quality of the additions (same as DLC), but I guess gamers mind the term less. | ||
