brilliant idea further influating the allready overrun german education system. in a few years we have to pay big money, too, because there is not enough space. we do not have enough places for master-students allready and g8 is just kicking in.

500 per year, right? + rent and taxes for almost everything i own. Oh do i have a small job? That's right 40% comes off the salary just for the taxes. Which doesn't even include the stupid ones like TV tax and such.
But sure! Come to learn in Germany! It's so cheap and basic that you will not be able to afford to go back anyway.

Oh and let's not forget the overpriced everything in stores either. Well not Beer. But if you want to eat or something you gonna pay over ten times of what you do where you come from!

That's because you lovely people know what matters in this world. Fuck the past, that was a different generation that did what they did. You guys are awesome and I have a great admiration for Germany. Keep on rockin' <3

It's generally more expensive for foreigners to come to European schools, but it'd probably be cheaper than an American school of the same level.

It's actually pretty cheap from what I understand. My friend and I go to a state school, but she studied a year abroad in Germany. Apparently, it was half the cost of staying and going to school in the US.

Trouble is though, German universities aren't as good. If you go to a middling US college, you might aswell go to Germany, but there's not German equivalent of Harvard or Yale etc. The best ones in Germany are probably RKU Heidelberg, Munich Tech and LMU Munich, though they still lag considerably behind the top US ones.
For top end US quality need to go to somewhere like Oxford, Cambridge, UCL etc. and then it's not much cheaper to go than in the US. ETH Zurich, ENS Paris and Ecole Polytechnique de Lausanne are probably the best mainland Europe universities, though I'm not sure about Swiss fees or the language the French unis teach in.

Fair point, it does in fact depend on your major. But the US's big schools are generally the best at, well, everything. It's really easy to just chock it up to "Germany's schools are better than American schools in engineering", because most people will just think of the cars and not look any further into it. If you specifically look at engineering schools' rankings, though, American schools still come out on top. There are about 15 American schools ranked higher than Germany's top engineering school, and there ain't shit that can touch MIT.
I just googled top universities for engineering and looked at the list. I'm not claiming this to be super sophisticated research, just slightly more sophisticated than just assuming things based on Germany's cars.

The thing is, that those rankings always include research (and here the most important factors are the money spent for research and the number of nobel prize winners, which i doubt leads to a reasonable ranking). I have been to Jiaotong University (China) ranked 16, Purdue (U.S.)ranked 15 and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and the German one was by far the one most challenging one concerning exams and lectures. Since most people don't go into research, I personally think this factor is way underrarted in most university rankings.

There's even a rate of foreigners every university needs to accept per year, which could basically make your chance of acceptance higher.
But Idk about out of country rates, however I do know that Germany became an educational country since lots of foreigners come here to study

this myth is American cultural hegemony based. a degree from virtually any country in the world is of equal merit for the 75+% of jobs which aren't interested in ur uni degree except that you Have one. even that top 25% of jobs is more interested in the person u present to them in employment negotiations, rather then which country is in the degree box.

yes, because germany is well known for protecting people's rights in the past :/
#12 - lumendeus (07/20/2014) [-]
Actually since world war 2 it is, although those, who 'learn' history from the Wolfenstein franchise, may not have noticed.
For more details try to google 'Abu Ghraib ' or 'Phan Thi Kim Phuc'. You won't notice any German soldiers there, but a lot of American.
