If the number of guns available had an effect on the number of murders of passion like you describe, then places with lots of guns would have high murder rates.
But as you may know cities with high guns per capita, have low murder rates and gun violence, compared to similar cities with lower gun ownership rates.

I see it all coming down to the numbers of defensive firearm uses, and making more gun laws preventing guns from getting to the hands of good guys will result in less defensive firearm uses.

that isn't quite fair because of many reasons, geography and population are some, and we have different laws in different states and even cities. Our most violent cities are cities where guns are banned. Yet our most peaceful cities are cities that are well armed.

Tasers are not scary, however most defensive firearm uses never require the gun to be fired, just the mere presence of a gun in the potential victim's is enough to stop most crimes.

Also Tasers only give you one shot, limited range, and there are many criminals they do not work on. I do not have a problem killing any home intruder, they are the one who takes the risk by committing the crime.

Also the UK murder rates rose when the gun ban was implemented.
If you really want to compare countries with similar geography compare the US to mexico. Mexico have guns illegal for all citizens, save one very small caliber gun that we give to children in the US to train them. That one caliber gun is very hard for a citizen to obtain also.

Ireland's gun ban hasn't really worked out for them, as you can see in the chart to the left. That would be a bad idea.
