Ah I got the impression that you disliked the film because it's ending was sequel bait so I went into automatic defend-the-film mode.

Suppose I missed the part where you said exactly the oposite of that. My bad

You make good points, but in the end, I think it just comes down to the nostalgia and how it connected with the previous films.

I'm a die hard fan, and I loved nearly everything about the film, but i think that's because I like to plant myself in the universe of Star Wars whenever I see one of the films and everything they did just makes perfect sense when I internally explain it all in-universe. For example Rey is gifted with the force because she is Luke's daughter. It's technically still a theory but the film is so litered with clues I'd be pissed if she wasnt. I like the theory that she received basic training before Kylo joined Snoke (he's about 10 years older than her, so the time lines work) and after Luke managed go save her from the slaughter he had her memories wiped and placed her on Jakku under the observation of Lor San Trekka (the old dude with the map) who Luke clearly trusted as an Obi-Wan style protector. I also like to think that Kylo probing her mind may have accidentally unlocked some of her forgotten training, which is why she suddenly knows the mind trick. Just a theory, but it makes it all more fun for me when thinking about the film. There's also the fact that the Death Stars did fucking work. Each time. If the Emperor hadn't been so damn overconfident and kept the 2nd one a secret until it was completed, then it would have been pretty much unstoppable, since it was designed with solution to all the flaws of the first.

And the First Order's entire ideology revolves around the belief that the Empire failed because of a lack of true ambition. What better way to show this then by building their trademark weapon bigger and better in nearly everyway. Again, if the traitor doesn't help the resistance, then the First Order conquers the galaxy by firing the thing fucking twice.

My older sister, by contrast, who is also a die hard, didn't like a lot of stuff, and thinks my theories are all bullocks. It's really just a matter of opinion and how deeply you rationalize the film.

I personally think the series of films has a lot of potential to bulid up on more depth than the other previous films had.
Take Kylo Ren for example. Everyone gives Kylo shit because he's not Vader 2.0, but the thing people don't realize is the big difference between him and Vader is experience; Kylo's just an apprentice with a lot of potential but a lot of immaturity due to inexperience, and that's why he gets shit on. The thing that makes Kylo Ren is he's essentially the first villain that will actually develop his powers later on not just start off at the highest point (in the previous films, Sidious, Vader, etc. are all pre-designated villains with known levels of power and experience). This makes Kylo a bit unpredictable, in that we don't know really know how he'll develop in the next few films, but judging from his master, Snoke, and his final comment of having Hux retrieve Kylo to "finish his training" , we can guess that Kylo could very well reach a point where he will surpass Vader and perhaps even his master (especially given that he's of the Skywalker bloodline).
Between Ren and Rey, the latter of which who can also be presumed to be later train and develop her own abilities, I think the films will have a theme of either finding a balance between the light and the dark (which is kind of what Snoke's introductory teaser statement alluded to a bit) or Ren will somehow be redeemed over to the light side without going pepsi.

The one element of the film I'm absolutely hopeful for is the character of Snoke, because he seems to be the kind of character I always thought was missing from the EU (both Legends and New-Canon universes respectively); a pragmatic Sith Lord. Someone who doesn't fall victim to the trope of constantly embracing emotions and chastizing everyone when shit hits the fan a strong example of this was when he was reported to about Starkiller Base being fugged, and his demeanor was absolutely nonchalant and nothing like you'd expect from a typical big bad evil guy Sith Lord. . I really hope more stuff comes out about the guy, whether from the film or from additional background books, because I'd like to see if he really is the type of cold-thinking character like someone on the same level of Legends-EU character Grand Admiral Thrawn.

the movie if u put urself in universe and think logically had a lot of points that dont work together. Thats where a lot of die hard fans get irked about.
Rey shouldnt be able to use hald the force talents she showed. or have been able to beat kylo who was highly trained(even if she had basic training assuming she was lukes daughter). Force powers dont just materialize out of know where. The most the force does for those not trained is give u a lil insight and prowess i.e. why anakin was the only human pod racer or why luke was such a good natural pilot. It doesnt give u the ability to use jedi mind tricks automatically. without being shown or taught how to do it. Now if she had learned these things just at an accelerated rate but had at least a teacher or someone around. Then yea its alot more believable
We all know the movie is a unoriginal clone of the first movie but they didnt bring the same magic that ep 4 had in it.
Finn who was stormtrooper trained since a child shouldnt have suddenly become a wimp and shit. stormtroopers (all cant shoot for shit jokes aside) are supposed to be elite soldiers. Like outside of special forces they are the best. You dont make it as a storm trooper and get squimish.
Han and chewie would have never gone back to smuggling with his son all dark side like. han solo is very friend and family centric. He doesnt abandon them if he thinks they need help. So him going back to smuggling is just a copy from a new hope where after and up till empire strikes back he did some smuggling work till he realized he should join the alliance.
The movie is medicore at best. The non cgi effects range from good to shitty. Practical effects are good but going over board isnt
JJ and disney basically fucked alot of stupid shit up just make a rehash and grab cash. Like everyone was like oh the movie has a diverse cast and blah blah. but i would rather seea better story, plot, and character development than have a diverse cast.
Rey and finn dont feel like the characters growth was genuine. just feels choppy and lacking. Least in teh first movie u see luke progress to his path as a jedi. You see hans attitude and demeanor change from caring only about himself to caring about new friends and leia

Too many plot holes and stupid questions that could have been better in the latest movie

i agree with you on many points but fj is on hype train and arguing about the quality of the "best film ever made" until next hype train arrives is not a good idea here. i think it was ok, but as you say shitton of plot holes and out of character things + copy of the original. still i liked finn and rey and some of the dialogues that werent just retarded shit like that leia/han that looked just like *insert exposition here* were really funny

I agree with basically everything you said, but I'm not sure what it has to do with my comment. Your theories make sense, and I agree that if she isn't Luke's daughter I don't know who the hell she is but I was talking about the endings being different and sequel baity. I mean I dislike how it's expecting me to watch the next one (even though I will anyway) but I liked the movie as a whole for what is was doing in the rest of it.

He is depressed because he's a fricking 14 year old kid who lost his mom when he was young and his dad doesn't give a shit about him, plus add to the fact that he has no supports and no friends makes it even worse. Then the cherry on top is that he has to defend mankind from alien demi gods who want to annihilate the world because he's one of the only few who can pilot the mechs that are humanities only hope against them. He suffers more trauma and stress in a short amount of time then even veteran soldiers with years of experience battlefield experience with way more expectations.

But no, you get the neckbeard faggots who say he has to be some unrealistic badass who knows exactly what to do and have some kind of insane confidence mentality when his background says otherwise.

Tldr: Anime weebu waifu fags don't like because its more complex then simple fanservice and oooohh my waifu is a tsundere who cant think past the next time they will take a shit and not do anything with their lives.

Amazing anime if you want something a bit realistic and more psychological elements then pure retardo violence and fanservice.
