That's what the people of Tamriel currently believe. Could be the writers reflection on the fact that the whole story takes place around the dark ages therefore it's wrong but seems like a good idea at the time, or they could be right.
User avatar #59 - arrisarrad (07/23/2013) [-]
It's believed that the highly advanced Dwemer were on the cusp of uncovering an even deeper understanding of the universe when they disappeared. Either due to the acts of jealous Aedra/Daedra, or as a natural result of their intervention in the Earth Bones. So they either ascended to another plane of existence (highly possible given that they knew of others besides the three already known), were obliterated to protect the secrets of the Aedra/Daedra, or were destroyed by the natural effects of physically tampering with the laws of nature (earth bones). It's already sort of hinted that the pieces that make up Nirn were from other worlds with living beings on them, and various stories as well as the Psijic Old Way would lend credence to the theory that when beings die in Aurbis, they become spirits, and spirits can gain power from the worship of mortals, the most powerful becoming gods or daedra, although the distinction would be irrelevant. Since some of the Aedra were believed to have been mortals on Nirn before, it seems likely that a lot of the orthodoxy about the nature of the divine beings is dark ages hogwash. But the nature of the universe stuff comes from mages and Dwemer, so it seems like it may be accurate within story canon.
User avatar #55 - arrisarrad (07/23/2013) [-]
It's also considered actual canon. Aurbis, the universe, is like a large disk shape, with the extremities being merely called Aurbis. The next ring is Aetherius, then Oblivion, then Mundus, with Nirn at the center.
#17 - Common Pepe (07/23/2013) [-]
that's the lore, for that universe it's fact. and to clarify, its mundus, not tamriel. tamriel is a continent on a planet called nirn which exists in the mortal plane of mundus. in mundus there are 9 planets if i remember right, the non-nirn planets being the physical bodies of the 8 original divines. the sun, as well as all the stars are portals to aetherius, which is where all magic comes from
User avatar #18 - Blargosnarf (07/23/2013) [-]
Okay, thanks for explaining shit I already know, and we're talking about the people of Tamriel, we never have any game experience/story experience about any other part of Nirn save for a few islands, so we weren't wrong, you corrected nothing, just to be a bit of a dick.
