The maps were far more obnoxious in the original Gaiden tbh.
What's up with the maps? Also what's the open-endedness of the game like?
I loved just fighting countless revenant encounters or shitty spotpass teams in Awakening
movement inhibitors, FUCKING EVERYWHERE, the are narrow hallways everywhere so you can only send so many units through but then none of them can retreat if shit hits the shit and tree and deserts that make you move slow as shit unless you are a flyer. They even took out (or maybe never had it in the first place) the mages immunity to the movement penalties of the desert, and when your enemy has archers (which in this game has a 5 tile range!) you can get slaughtered before you even get the first hit in.
I mean, I have yet to have an actual problem with archers, but maybe I'm not far enough in yet. Or maybe it's because I leveled all of my villagers up to 12+ in the first bandit cave, because I was having none of the game's bullshit with "HERE IS A CHARACTER THAT YOU CAN HIT FOR 3 DAMAGE ON YOUR STRONGEST! HE LIKES TO COUNTER FOR 10 DAMAGE!" stuff, and I kinda continued to power-level from there.
Chapter 3 Celica's side quest for the bandit leader. You will know suffering.
if this is the one where you have to pick a side, it depends on which one you pick
the medieval side just has you go through a campaign
the Japanese side lets you pick when to fight, train, retrain, and move forwards
which is a shame because if they had just switched it around I would have bought it
It's not. There's a new one, which is a remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden from the famicom. It's pretty fantastic.
Also, you missed out on the last one, sorta. Revelations (the third route) was pretty solid.
