As for the fight itself, if you're trying to block Smough then I can assume you're a melee character that doesn't have any magic, I'm the same way, my strategy for the fight was to lead ornstein away from smough then take a few hits at him, then run before smough hits me. Just do that over and over and you should be able to get rid of ornstein without help. As for smough, I'd recommend using light armor for agility (try to get your load below 25% of your max, that's the fastest you can get). Dodge as much as possible, especially with smough. Once smough is alone you should be able to use a stick-and-run strategy to finish him off. Slight warning, when smough gets ready for the body slam while charged, fucking run, it has a huge radius.
