Bricehager (03/24/2013) [-] Although you make some noteworthy points, a lot of what you said is pure conspiracy theorist bullshit. For one, we're allowed to grow our own food. You can raise chickens and grow beans and live off that for the entirety of your life. The modern "wage slavery" is simply JOB SPECIALIZATION. Which, if you don't know, divides labor into different jobs which promotes serious progress. Scientists can devote their lives to their work because they don't have to hunt for their food all day. It's why we've come so far from being hunter-gatherer societies. Now capitalism obviously has it's flaws, lots of them, but we as Americans are in a much better situation that most humans. If you want to complain about that and not offer any solutions, then go ahead. TL;DR Job specialization helps us progress as a species, capitalism is flawed but better than other things. #527

N. Korean citizen (03/24/2013) [-] "Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains. Those who think themselves the masters of others are indeed greater slaves than they." - Rousseau I think he also said that you chose your own chains, but you are never really free. So there is no freedom at all! Ever! #501

N. Korean citizen (03/24/2013) [-] Most people who use the "Freedom" and "America" thing around the web tend to be using it ironicly and humourously V: Because we know how awful things are. #456

deathstare (03/24/2013) [-] You lost the argument the second you insulted him. You gave no counter point, just flat out said he was wrong. Does this behavior remind you of someone? A brat, perhaps? A brat of the spoiled nature, perhaps? Yup, you've pretty much hurt yourself with that comment. I like the fact that you're trying to "stick it to the man". I'ts real cool. but you can plant you own crops in america, it's quite easy. My grandfather has a garden in his backyard that makes a surplus of everything form potatoes to blueberries. Also, I think that working for what you own, under the protection of an organized and just government can be one of the purest forms of freedom, as long as you dont squander it thinking you're being fucked in the ass because one or two things arent quite perfect. No working country of "freedom for people" is perfect, Karl Marx showed us that the hard way. Did you know that the government is trying to enforce the use of Genetic Use Restriction Technology (GURT) to dissallow farm owners from growing crops that reproduce seed? The technology is basically gene alteration that introduces a "terminator" gene that renders seeds sterile. It's currently in preproduction testing by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and some big seed company on it's way to becoming commercially available. Now, tell me why there should be any invention like that to begin with? Or why the U.S. Government is taking a part in it? Half of the global seed market is dominated by 10 companies, all likely to incorporate the sterility gene into their seeds to prevent farmers from reprofiting from ordinary seeds. We might have a semblance of freedom now, but we really have to think about things when the control of our food is taken from us. sounds like something straight out of Fight Club, you get a thumb for that. | ||
