I'm a gamer but I run Ubuntu on a laptop, because I wanted to learn more about software design and the workings of a computer. Broke the laptop several times without knowing how I did it, I still have some problems but now it seems to be hardware related. Still had frustation but also a good time trying to get things to work.

I'm a passionate gamer, but also an advocate of privacy. What I know so far about Windows 10 doesn't make me want to use it, Microsoft trying to shove it down my throat adds to that. As I don't think Mantle will be able to challenge DirectX unfortunately there'll be no way around Win 10 if I want to play future games.

However my next computer will run Ubuntu as main OS and Windows only in a VM. With VGA passthrough it should be able to run without much loss of computing power but only with the network connectivity I allow.

VGA passthrough ain't a perfect solution to gaming on Linux, but it's pretty damn good.

Just keep in mind that you are still running two OSs simultaneously and therefore will indeed take a hit in computing power.

I personally keep a 50GB windows partition for games only. It's on windows 10, keep in mind that ALL THREE windows OSs (7, 8.1, and 10) have the spyware implemented. Yes, the older OSs have them implemented via updates, and I'm not gonna bother trying to run a half-updated 7.

Privacy not exactly what I'm concerned about though. The fact of the matter is that I feel like I run my computer now on Linux. I'm in control of the software, not the other way around.

And that feels fucking great.

Also >>#43, I found that GNU/Linux has just werked more often than Windows does. Windows had all sorts of problems figuring out what to do with external monitors connected to my laptop, but Linux figures it out every time perfectly. Also my xbox 360 wireless reciever worked out of the box, but on windows I had to dig through menus and shit to manually apply the correct driver. Everything but touch support (linux is only single-touch, acts like your finger is a mouse basically, and I found it to be buggy as shit), but that's something I can live without.

Well the 93-97% performance achieved are probably enough when I build a new setup with ~800€. I'm waiting till AMD brings Zen onto the market so the prices drop as Intel gets competition again.
Until then I'll try to stay up-to-date with the shit Microsoft wants to put onto my PC.

For touch support: I built my mother, a cavemen in terms of technology, a computer to use as a register with touch and as she has to learn from scratch anyway put Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on it. This way she can't fuck anything up (I'm running the admin account, she is a regular user). When there's no trackpad additionally touch works fine. However still as mouse input. But even multi-touch is possible to a certain degree. You can even add gestures with the right program.

linux is just a massive waste of time, the only reason why people brag about having linux on their home computer is because they're hipsters who somehow think it makes them look "indie", yet all they're doing is limiting the the compatibility of the machine for no fucking reason... you can learn how a system works with windows, and who the hell doesn't like the idea of a start menu? or their file manager? everyone who has grown up with a computer has more than likely gotten used to using windows explorer or mac finder, it's simple and intuitive, why the fuck do you need to change it? oh yeah, to make yourself look 'indie', forgot about that

NIX based kernels have greater compatibility with hardware, the flip side is that they can be much more complex to get working. I can get a NIX kernel to work on almost anything, many of which windows has no clue how to work with.

Now, it doesn't natively run most games, and it has issues with the latest drivers for video cards. The driver problem is rapidly improving, mostly due to steam pushing NIX in it's steamOS, and very little of the compatibility issues can't be solved with a correctly set up WINE install.

NIX also is the only set of OSs which support pretty much every file system, and are able to best work with protocols like IPv6, NFS, CIFS, and most others. You can also get file managers and start menus with NIX systems(apples OS X happens to be one, thank you very kindly).

"No, we thumb you down because you are overly annoying with your constant posting"

Do you even realize the sort of massive erections these nolife faggots get when people reply to them.

And on top of that, you called him "annoying" Being annoying is the only thing that faggot can do in life, and you told him he did a good job. He probably ejaculated when he read your comment.

Good job faggot, you just gave a blowjob over the internet to a ******* zoophliac.
