yeah same here, Aang was cool, fun yet collected when need be.
Korra can be kiiiiinda bitchy sometimes a lot

Though she is still an interesting character, the fact that she had multiple elements from very early on, plus special training, would make ANYONE think they're a badass... throw in a bit of PMS and teenage issues and you can't really blame her for turning out the way she did.

She is gonna tackle some different issues, and in a very different way that Aang would, and I like that. I didn't want her to be Aang 2 if that was the case we would have gotten Aang... I would have liked that a lot too though

I think my issue with the 1920s are the same with the "everything can be turned into steampunk"
I hate when everything is turned steampunk when ITS NOT FUCKING SUPPOSED TO BE STEAMPUNK!!!
Keep your fandoms apart...
rant over

I feel like the oldschool setting was more interesting, I dont give a shit about pro-bending, give me proper martial arts!
Dont give me cars! or mechs! I wanna see more interesting animal mixes and MOTHER FUCKING BENDING!
I liked the first season of korra a lot more than this one... the non-bending vs bending was amazing! they should've kept with that! the spirits are cool too, but I feel like season two was too much 1920s and too little avatar... granted I havent seen the latest episode yet, I was just reminded now that it was out
The best part I've seen of book two was the part with Wan, and when a two-part backflash rushthrough of an entire life is better than a season... something went wrong.

In actual history the Second Industrial revolution took around 50 years (which is about how much time is between TLA and LOK) to convert from horse drawn carriages to motorcars radios etc being commonplace. You throw in bending and denizens from every culture in the world in one city (which thus far is the only one to be industrialized to the extent it has that we have seen) innovative individuals and the tech that was already present like the firenation warships, air baloons etc, and it at least makes it believable. I like discussing this kind of stuff I think its fun.
User avatar #150 - zaywoot (11/10/2013) [-]
it wasnt about believablility... I just like the older setting better... i kinda wanted it to stay old school chinaesque, I like the architecture better, the clothing styles... the attitude of the people...

I feel like a major part of the purpose of the 1920's setting was Amon's rebellion. That couldn't have happened without the steam-punk like technological advances. And although that technology is everywhere, and seems to have suddenly cropped up waaay to quickly, I suppose it does make sense that with bending, particularly metal and lightning bending, technology would have advanced in that direction much quicker.

Personally I think the major flaw with LoK was simply that they didn't take their time the way AtLA did. Everything seems a little more rushed, and over too quickly some how. They don't have the same kind of journey that AtLA did, somehow the moments that should be climactic are just a little too quick to really strike home.
User avatar #133 - zaywoot (11/04/2013) [-]
You have a good point.

I think the reason it's rushed is because in AtLA they had the firelord as the primary evil through the entire show, with a new villain every season as Korra apparently is doing it, they need to create a new mystery, establishment of a villain, development of Korra and a victory in one season. With Aang they had the time to create interesting developments, they could fit in a much bigger adventure.
#141 - Aftershock (11/05/2013) [-]
The season also seems to be half the size, which only exacerbates the issue. Season one of LoK was 12 episodes, AtLA seasons were like 22 episodes.

It's a shame they're doing that. Would've been better if they had an underpinning conflict. Say for example if there were smaller developments and whatnot along the way, but throughout the three seasons we saw Amon and the equalists slowly rise to power and infamy, and Korra's quest to figure out how to defeat Amons bending-blocking-technique, instead of Aang just suddenly giving it to her.
User avatar #144 - zaywoot (11/05/2013) [-]
the entire bending/non-bending issue was a more engaging and interesting plot than civil war...

not that the civil war isnt interesting too, but non-bending can truly span the entire world, where the civil war, though it may still affect the other nations, is still primarily a water tribe issue
User avatar #143 - zaywoot (11/05/2013) [-]
Thats exactly what Korra should have been

Amon was also way cooler a villain

The lion turtles can Energybend. They granted Aang that ability too. In essence, they gave Aang the same powers they held: The ability to give and remove elemental bending. This allowed Aang to 1) remove Ozai's firebending, and 2)Restore Korra's bending (of all elements)

Energybending isnt reserved to one element at a time. it just involves controlling the persons Chi.

I wouldn't be so sure, don't forget Energybending. After all, Aang's lion turtle granted him Energybending, not firebending. They might be different lionturtles
User avatar #26 - lesrin (10/28/2013) [-]
thats true as well, theres also the possibity that the lion turtle infact didnt teach him bending, i mean the lion turtle had the ability to take away fire bending, and aang never goes into detail how he took sozins firebending, only that he could, maybe the lion turtle just tought him how to remove firebending and only firebending, i think there was somthing during legend of korra where he may have removed water bending? i cant remember, if so you very well might be right, if not it stands a chance he only knew how to remove fire bending
#27 - thoroe (10/28/2013) [-]

That makes it seem more likely. Not 100%, but the idea is growing on me
