I outgrew that meme months ago, especially thanks to its original purpose being moot now (the "ironic" shitposting parts of Reddit have gotten hold of 4chan's "ironic" shitposting memes months ago).

I still enjoy ironic posts. just because moot said it one time on /b/ doesn't mean he means it, and it doesn't mean it's law.

Back in 2011 4chan (especially /v/) was upset over Reddit's love of rage comics. They were also annoyed by the use of "le". Around the summer the boards started making mock-vectors of reaction images posted often on there and started posting them in comics on Reddit to fool around with its userbase (Note: Most of these early images weren't even captioned with "le x face"; their captions were usually bastardized versions of phrases associated with them). Over time, "ironic" shitposting became more and more popular in between December of 2011 and February of 2012. With Reddit paranoia abundant, some users started to post "ironically" to mock posters they suspected of being Redditors. (They even some of their comics on here back then)

In January and February of 2012, the "jimmies" meme was revived by a cereal box and became very popular on 4chan. However, several users (especially /v/irgins once again) became paranoid that Reddit would end up bastardizing this meme, so "le monkey face" was created, which happens to be the turning point of the mock-vectors into the "le x face" formula. After one special jimmies thread, most of /v/ abandoned the meme. There was also the /v/GAs, which lead to the creation of /vg/, and many /v/irgins accuse it of attracting Redditors. Towards the summer, all of this started to grow out of control as /v/ became so obsesssed with Reddit and "le" that they (assumed) started posting "le" more than Reddit even uses it. The original purpose of all of these images and the shitposts backfired onto 4chan. Anyone who went a bit out of line with /v/'s general ways would be accused of being a Redditor, and "ironic" shitposting was abused for the hell of it.

I don't know when, but Reddit itself had caught onto 4chan's ironic shitposting, and it happens to be especially popular in the "circlejerk" subreddits. Over 2012, rage comics on Reddit became less and less popular. However, 4chan's users happened to be unaware of these changes in Reddit's userbase. This only made the original purpose of ironic shitposting backfire harder.

In the last hours of 2012, /v/ discovered a Japanese Winnie the Pooh baseball game, and it became very popular. However, once more Reddit paranoia made /v/ abandon it (within a week into 2013! The funny thing is that it did spread to other websites, but its popularity seemed to die down after /v/ decided to leave it). As for the rest of 2013 so far, I don't have anything definite. I haven't been going on there much recently, but I think there's less ironic shitposting and they are now more paranoid about a specific part of Reddit (ShitRedditSays) and Tumblr.

Well i do applaud you (honestly) for being able to keep track of all this. and the insult wasn't geared toward you, rather everyone else in their respective websites that actually cared about this 4chan vs reddit war.
