Valve has often said he, for the pyro, but then they also say he/she sometimes. Also, the Heavy kind of alludes that "he" is just a general term. After all, do we think of monsters as male or female, unless they're explicitely female? No, we don't. Since the heavy also says that "no man scares him, but that... monster... does", I think that the pyro's gender is still up for debate.

That part from your gif was the most fucked up in my opinion. What I still have to decide is if he/she actually knows what he/she is doing and blocks it out with a sick fantasy or if he just doesn't know anymore.
