That's the kind of mentality that gave way to The Last Airbender's casting decisions. You can ignore small details but you can't just chuck in huge mixups like race and sex and expect people to not call you on your stupidity.

This particular casting decision is annoying only because The Cursed Child is supposed to be the canon sequel to the Harry Potter series, and people are expecting consistency.

But in general, race-bending and even gender-bending in casting matters far less in stageplays than in movies. There's been many great plays with black actors playing white characters, and even female actors playing men and vice versa. Gender-bending in particular has been going on literally since stage acting was invented. Plays aren't expected to be immersive, so they can take more liberties with the casting.

Yep. And when women started stage acting it became fairly common for them to play young men and boys. Peter Pan is the most famous example.

It's not about what they did, it's about why, and it's because some whiny bitches on tumblr decided that if it has white skin it's inferior. When JK cast the films she chose a white actress, so that pretty much confirms that the character is white in her head.

Changing a character's race like this cheapens their identity to "oh yes and there's the black one ". Not to mention that there are plenty of black characters in the franchise as it is. And would they dare change one of them to be white? No they would not.

I just don't think the fact that someone's skin color doesn't match a description or your imagination is valid grounds for not picking them, unless it is detrimental to the role itself. A black man playing lincoln in a documentary film would conflict. A black woman playing a fictional character of a book that has nothing to do with race or minorities isn't. Plus it would really add some impact to Draco's mudblood lines.
