The gas system puts too much pressure on the rod and not enough is transferred to the ejector, causing jambs. This is because of the weight and complexity of moving parts. I'm not just making shit up. The Canadian part is because people think it's an American weapon. Winchester just bought out the rights and tooling, it's 100% Canadian. | 30-06 is old gold. There are better calibers for every practical purpose these days, for the same price. Garand itself: French Canadian design (not muricah) exposed bolt locking (gets dirty) gaps in action and many moving parts(dirty again) Gas operated (ew, there are like a dozen problems with this one) Operating rod weak (bends, jammed, needs a gunsmith) 3/4 of a mile trigger pull Almost no flexibility in loading (150 gr max, milspec powder loads only) For it's time it was spectacular.
