All religions are cults (or collections of them) but not all cults are religions. Basically it is a numbers game and about wider recognition of the cult as having a certain degree of validity. For instance, Judaism, Islam and Christianity have a shared scriptural source and have to recognize that even if they refute the other claims being made. Mormonism on the other hand pret isty much universally rejected in its addendum to canonical sources. I consider it a quasi-Christian cult but some would argue it is simply one of the countless other cults that exist within Christianity.

inb4 the real definition of cult is "a system of religious veneration and devotion directed toward a particular figure or object."

So like... aren't all monotheistic religions cults...because they're based around a single god.

Inb4 also Mormons are technically Polytheistic because it holds the belief that Earth's god had a god and that god had a god so there is a never ending chain of god's gods. [spoiler] of god's gods god's gods god's gods god [spoiler]. So by basic definition, Mormons are less of a cult than for instance Jews or Catholics, which only believe in a single god or are "[devote] toward a particular figure"

Polytheism are pretty much a collection of cults with shared theology and that collectivism is what turns it into a religion. Take Greek polytheism, Zeus is the king of the gods but each god had their own cult. Their veneration is directed to a particular god but recognize the validity of the worship of other gods within the confines of their theological structure.

You can have a cult that believes that many gods exist but only worship one (IE. Skyrim religions). It doesnt have to be a monotheist religion I believe.

But you know it is a cult right? As in, there is a definition of what a cult is and it meets that definition.

Bruh these are the people that used to commit suicide for honor and did the whole suicide bombing in planes, Kamikaze shit before it was cool.

They don't give a fuuuuuuck.
User avatar #161 - vatra (01/22/2015) [-]
Japanese culture is still incredibly prideful. It's not a rare thought to rather die than be dishonored. In short they are making fun of ISIS by being like: "ha! You think we would dishonor them by paying for their release?"
#179 - gromgalgoo (01/22/2015) [-]
Actually, the Japanese government are known for paying retardedly high ransoms for it's hostages. Seeing that, whoopidy fucking due!, they strongly believe no money could ever counter a human life. The only reason why they didn't just stright out pay this ransom, is what the money will go for.

So no - They're not "Too proud to care", but literally worried about what that money might do (since it's such a high ammount).

Not strange from a "western perspective" at all - Just stright out wrong.
User avatar #181 - vatra (01/22/2015) [-]
He was asking about the twitter responses. Not the government's response. So unless you plan to tell me the Japanese Government made all those comments on twitter your comment is irrelevant. Though you are right that their government reacts differently to those situations.

Hang in there man, it's hard to come to terms with reality. When people lie to you your whole life and tell you that you can be whatever you want to be as long as you follow your dreams, and you end up believing their bullshit, it really hurts to realize that we do not live in a music or sports based economy, there are very very few people who succeed in those fields, and back up plans are the only way to avoid ending up on the street because there is no just getting by in an entertainment career. It's a lottery, some people win big but millions more lose.

Never throw away your dream though, keep it alive, do it for fun whenever you can, because there is a big difference between killing your dream and realizing you have to wake up sometime.

I just don't understand how people suck his dick so hard. I have a lot of respect for electronic artists, and deadmaus stuff is so minimalistic and simple it doesn't compare to 9/10 of the producers I've heard.

that's kind of the point though, that's the kind of music he makes
it's lowkey for the most part, but very well put together and always incredibly polished
not to mention he makes most of his music analog (which in part explains the "minimal" nature of it that you're talking about)

I understand why somebody wouldn't like him, but you have to at least understand how evident his talent and hard-work are in his music
