UK here, and if i recall, the whole idea is constricted freedom of speech. General idea being Freedom of speech =/= hate speech. Dont quote me on it though, I canne be arsed with bloody PC.

Honestly I'd prefer that to what we've got here in the states. There are organizations over here that literally exist for no reason other than to antagonize others. WBC being the most prime example of such scum-sucking fuckery, but there are others. Would be nice if we could just round them all up and tell 'em to shut the fuck up or get the fuck out.
#59 - anonymous (08/19/2014) [-]
So, the same as the US. Just without the pretenses of having unlimited free speech.
#37 - anonymous (08/19/2014) [-]
I'm not sure about Britain, but Australia doesn't have a constitutionally guaranteed right to free speech either. I could certainly imagine something like this going down in Australia and a policeman saying that. But that would be the extent of it, look at the way the cop words it. He doesn't mention any legal ramifications, he just says it's offensive. This is more like 'stop being a dick' than 'if you don't stop you will be arrested'.

It's possible to use it once you've learned, but how to actually teach it?
I guess something like "food" or "water" will be obvious after many repeats, but what about other words?
User avatar #68 - lazorgator (06/21/2014) [-]
its for people who are going deaf and blind, while they can still see or hear and communicate that way you teach them.

Other than that no idea.

i'm voting yes without a doubt. i'm on ESA just now because of severe back problems and because of they useless cunts in westminster and their bullshit benefit cuts i had to go a whole year with literally no money at all while they fill their own pockets with as much as they can, i couldn't even go to hospital appointments because i couldn't afford to travel there, so i can't wait to see the back of they useless lying pricks.

sorry for the rant, i got a wee bit carried away

UKIP isn't going to win in a general election
35% of the country voted while a much higher percentage votes in general elections
A lot of the UKIP voters wouldn't end up voting for them in the general election, something like 40% of them
The European Election was also a different voting system. It used the proportional representation system while the general election uses first past the post, meaning that it's possible that UKIP won't even manage to get a single seat in parliament.

You can't use UKIP as reason to vote independence considering only 35% of Britain actually voted in the European Elections. I know plenty of pro independence people who use it as a reason who didn't vote in the EU elections, and they alone are the reason that UKIP won. UKIP won because the only people who could be bothered voting were the angry, swelled up bigots of the UK, and the rest didn't do their part, and are the sole reason UKIP are in.
User avatar #65 - ennaburning (06/11/2014) [-]
Scotland did vote for UKIP, one of the MEPs for Scotland is UKIP so it's not just England you can blame for that.
#58 - montybalboa (06/11/2014) [-]
Democracy is each person having an equal view on who runs the country, so England having more seats is perfectly understandable. However, I do think that MPs from specific regions/nations should have more power on policies that affect their region/nation, but that just opens up another can of worms.

It's also important to accept that UKIP is still a minority, and that realistically either Cameron or Miliband is going to be the next PM. Personally I'm very glad that they are enjoying their 15 minutes of fame now, during fairly unimportant European elections, rather than next year.

Also please consider the fact that the politicians that would run an independent Scotland will likely be no better than the UK's. It's incredibly easy for pro-independence politicians to beat their drum about independence to garner votes, whilst not really mentioning other important issues (much like UKIP is doing with membership of the EU)
User avatar #42 - minorian (06/11/2014) [-]
Holy fuck, I couldn't read a single word without a very prude Scottish accent.
#37 - anonymous (06/11/2014) [-]
The UKIP vote was a protest against the tories and the general idea has been shared across Europe as member states seek to re-negotiate their terms of membership (Since the EU has been dick swinging and igoring everyone for the past 10 years.) Whats more, don't pretend Scotland is innocent when UKIP was like 3rd from top there too. Whats more, The SNP which did get the majority is very similar to UKIP anyway, except replace the retarded 'leave EU' agenda with 'leave the UK.'

This is the problem with democracy, people vote based on emotion and ignorance. Economically and politically the split would not benefit Scotland. The only reason it has any support is because of childish rebelliousness.
#30 - anonymous (06/11/2014) [-]
As a brit living in th outskirts of Bham
i can confirm very very few vote for tory pricks

London has more seats and regions so 5 small areas of london outskirts has more voting power than the west midlands, all of london has more voting power than wales + midlands, scotland, and the north east.

All of which are very unlikley to vote for tory bastards.

What's the difference between this, and the state system the USA uses?
#33 - repostsrepost (06/11/2014) [-]
There is almost nothing similar between this and the state system in the US.
User avatar #46 - neoexdeath (06/11/2014) [-]
Well its vaguely similar, a group of political entities grouped together under a common government. I'm just trying to wrap my head around it
User avatar #108 - nimba (06/11/2014) [-]
It's more complicated than states, scotland is a country in some respects and just a region in other respects. The whole thing is a mess

I admit to being lost when it comes to British politics... Could somebody explain what a "tory" is?
User avatar #109 - nimba (06/11/2014) [-]
Tory: the dirtiest word in UK politics, yet still the government party.
User avatar #41 - minorian (06/11/2014) [-]
Tories are members of the Conservative Party in England.
