I mean they somehow picked a voice modulator for his hemlet that was not Darth Vader's but still was cool, but I think having him take his helmet off was a mistake.

Yeah I mean the movie was way fucking better than I initially expected when I heard the announcement 2 years ago. Definitely beats out episode 1.

It was 6.5/10 good, but it definitely had the potential to be 8/10 great, and that's why I'm so mad.

That fucking fight though. His fucking dicksaber was so awkward and ungainly. it was literally her trying to stab him, him slapping the sword away, then awkwardly swinging while trying to not hit himself. And that's besides the fucking "I'm a fucking virtuoso at everything I try" thing that Rey had going on.

Rey is one of the most poorly written characters I've ever seen.

I agree that Kylo was wounded and was likely not as effective as he could have been. However, he was also beating Rey despite being wounded. Up until she closed her eyes and heard the word force. Then she fucking destroyed him. Which should not have happened. I understand the desperate times thing, but honestly?

Other than that, the initial failure of the New Jedi Order through Kylo is something pretty believable. In the expanded universe, something similar almost happened on Yavin IV. The ghost of Exar Kun almost destroyed the NJO with Kyp Durron and the Sun Crusher. Anyway, expanded universe aside (may it rest in the force), seduced by a master, Kylo upholds the rule of two and has an interesting storyline. He actively rejects the light, seeking to be corrupted. This is an interesting plot point, because normally the dark seeks a jedi out. To have a goal of corruption makes him interesting because he is a departure from the norm. He recognizes the light inside him, and while he is angry and lost as most Dark Jedi are, he seeks to destroy the light. Not with the goal of making good fall, but to make himself pure.

Now on to Rey.

People use Luke as an example of a Gary Stu to counter Rey's Mary Sue. A few problems with that: Obi Wan taught Luke some rudimentary force techniques, such as sensing a target. Nothing crazy, but he could block a blaster bolt, and ultimately (with Ben's guidance) used the same technique to get the timing down for the targeting of his proton torpedoes and thus helped coin the term TRD (trench run disease). A very simple force enhanced timing technique was used. Nothing more. He was not a God who succeeded in everything he tried. Even with Yoda's instruction, he was hasty and fucked up by facing Vader at Bespin. Between Ep.V and Ep.VI , there are a few years in which he discovered a lot of hidden Jedi lore, including a few holocrons, that were able to further instruct him. The Jedi Temple on Coruscant was raided, but some of the librarians were able to smuggle them out. They held not only teachings, but entire simulations of the Jedi counsel. These simulations, while obviously not the real thing, held the personages of the masters of the counsel, among other Jedi Masters, and were able to instruct him in the ways of the force and he learned enough to lead a desperate battle against the Emperor that ended at Endor. Through his training, he had the strength of will to succeed.

A poor scavenger slave is somehow miraculously able to pilot a ship she thought was scrap through the wreckage of star destroyers to evade TIE's, even pulling a fucking mid air stall that let a disabled, locked, stationary gun blow it to shit. An amazing sequence, don't get me wrong (the fucking aerial sequences blew my goddamn mind), but completely fucking unbelievable. I understand her knowledge of mechanics from scavenging that let them not die from coolant poisoning, but come the fuck on. Pulling shit apart and flying shit are two very different things. She wasn't even a service tech who would move them around.

Finn, on the other hand, I thought was done somewhat well. He came from a developed remnant of the crumbled Empire that had turned into a second Empire calling itself the First Order. He was a stolen child who obviously didn't have a lasting brainwash. He was able to recognize wrong and fight it within himself, but lacked the strength to fight it in others. He found something worth protecting in Rey (yay friendship), and did what he could to protect his only friend, but until the assault on the Starkiller he was terrified of the death he saw inflicted on and had done to others and sought to run from it. When he realized that to fight death was to make death itself flee, he found a noble cause to fight for. Not the best character in the world, but it's believable.

But Rey? Fuck Rey.

That turned into a bit more of a rant than I expected.

But really, that whole "Join me" bullshit wasn't necessary. They probably just saw episode 5 and saw the Vader/Luke exchange and copied it over, but it doesn't fucking work with Rey. Rey has absolutely no relationship with that faggot unlike how Luke and Vader were son/father, so the possibility of Luke going to the dark side was totally possible. We know the from getgo that this girl isn't gonna do that, so why fucking bother. And so why would prissypants snapemcvader not just push her off the cliff? Vader didn't do that shit cause you know, he knew he could potentially sway his son. Compound all this with the fact that girl roy from challenge finders is a mary-sue-ass bitch and we have one horribly executed scene. Jesus christ dude.

I just watched this movie first time yesterday, and it just seems sureal to me right now, like I just had a strange dream or something. I mean, it wasn't nearly as bad as the prequels, but there was just so much stupid bullshit that didn't needed to be there. Feels like too many outside sources like SJWs and Disney themselves fucked up some shit.

Also, something i wanted to say about her lightsaber skills, just to put it out there. Compared to the fights in the prequels (aka, the only good parts) neither rei or kylo are very good. In fact i would say they are adequate at best.
Rei isnt used to fighting with a lightsaber, but has some experience with a staff. and kylo is all power and rage, but no finesse. Add to that the fact that kylo is wounded, terrified by rei, and is starting to panic due to the fucking planet breaking, and his performance was severely hampered. Also, he isnt fully trained, so he is still fairly new to this compared to other force users we have seen.

But she wasn't proficient at everything.

She is barely adequate with a lightsaber, the only reason ren lost to her is cause of what i said in my last comment. Wounded+scared(knows rei has more potential than him)+panicking (planet is fukin breaking)+not fully trained=less than amazing performance.

She is decent at salvaging. But not good enough to be on her bosses good side. If she brought him all the best stuff he would reward her, thus giving her incentive to get more good shit.

She is naturally gifted with flying, though her salvaging experience helped her a bit since she knows how the ships work from dismantling them.


She is a talented mechanic, again due to her salvaging experience.

She knows several different languages due to growing up in a trade hub.

She is horrendous with a blaster, remember her first fight with kylo ren? Out of like 15 shots he only had to block three, cause 12 shots missed him by several feet.

As for her use of the force? She tricked a brainwashed dumbass, grabbed a thing before someone else could grab it, and calmed down/focused a little.

She is not proficient with everything, not by a long shot.

Its a "copy" of a new hope because they took the safest route this time. They rehashed what was good so they could show us they could do a better job than george lucas, and so they could wash away the bad taste the prequels left.

Now that they showed they aremt complete fuck ups they will move on to something new.

(Though no matter what they doo bitchy extended universe fanboys will yell at them for copying something. So much shit has already been done with star wars that its unavoidable at this point.)

actually, you've got it all the wrong way round.

If she'd force pushed kylo, that'd be fine. force push is a basic-ass technique, it's all power and no finesse, and so could be used effectively by someone with high potential and no training (like Rey) his inability to counter could be chocked up to his state at the time.

Mind trick, however, is *not* simple. it doesn't require much power, but it's a very delicate skill which almost always requires years of training in control (which Rey definitely doesn't have)

as for the fighting, she knows a bit about dirty fighting using a staff, but anyone with even a year or two of basic saber training should be able to leave her on her back or in pieces every time, regardless of power or injuries.

basically, no-one's arguing Rey's potential in the force. however, many of the abilities she pulls off are the more skill-based ones, which are reliant on practice and training that she doesn't have, rather than the power based ones, which would be reliant on the raw power she likely does.

So I'm foggy on the originals, but isn't one of the first times Luke used the saber at all, it was to deflect lasers from the drone thing, blindfolded, using the force? Feels like a cop out to just say 'the force' but if she's especially powerful with it, could it be used to partially anticipate Kylo's strikes, and act accordingly? That coupled with her skill in jujst staying alive/dirty staff fighting, and with his injury, could explain how she wasn't just cut in half right away?

Not sure about the mind trick thing though, no idea how all that rates on the complexity scale. I haven't read or seen much of the canon outside of the movies, it *looks* simple, and if that First Order trooper was especially weak minded, I don't know how much that would carry over to her being able to do it like she did.

it's true that the force can give the user the ability to anticipate their enemy, but luke had it a lot easier. he was using the force against a simple droid who was shooting straight blaster bolts. Rey was up against Kylo, who also has the force, and so can anticipate her as easily (if not moreso, given his training) as she can him. as such, there's no advantage in this matchup the way there was in Luke vs Training Remote.

for mind trick, it's hard to say 100%, but all evidence I've seen points to it being a relatively high-skill ability. every use of it we see is by a trained Jedi:

- Qui Gon, a council-worthy Jedi Master
- Obi Wan, anywhere between a padawn on the verge of knighthood to an old master, possibly the second most powerful jedi in existance.
- Luke, after having spent nearly 4 years practicing his force skills and having been trained by various masters.

in fact, in the previous (legends) canon, the only untrained force sensitive to ever pull off a mind trick was Corran Horn, but his case was likely an exceptional one, as male jedi in the horn line had an unusual connection with the force - being unable to do simple psychokinetic abilities such as force push or pull, but also being unusually capable with illusionary and persuasive abilities.

so while it's not 100% impossible for an untrained force sensitive to use mind trick, it's highly, highly unlikely, as were a number of the skills Rey showed.
