On a side note, banning did happen on "Origin" which is EA's version of steam and it was not taken to kindly, most people don't use origin though.

You said you use steam. what happens if for some reason you get banned. what happens to your ability to play the games.

They legally can't perma ban me from steam. I can get banned from servers in the games but I still hold the ability to play said game on any other server.

That has never happened to me nor have I ever heard someone complain about that. The reason why I hate digital downloads is because I do not own the game I simply own the right to play it

All my digitally downloaded games are on my hard drive. They are not on some server somewhere. They are stored on my machine I can take out my hard drive and say it is like a big version of your disk. I have a physical copy of all of my games. If this physical copy breaks I can simply redownload all of my games onto a new hard drive instead of the broken one. I own every single game I have bought. A hard drive is like a really big xbox game that stores all of my games instead of just one.

Several years ago, I had one asshole literrally take the new copy of Fallout 3 out of my hand and grab a used copy. I usually only buy used copies of games if I'm unsure wether or not I want it, because I like having the brand new sealed cases to new games that I know for a fact I want. It took every muscle in my body to keep from drop kicking that fat asshole back to his mother's basement.

Also, prior to that, he spent twenty minutes trying to talk me into Pre-ordering the Assassin's Creed 2 Deluxe set when all I wanted was the game. Finally, I gave in because he said that I could easily go back should I change my mind. Over the next few weeks I started to get excited about the set, and I went back and finished paying it off. Now, twice, I told this fucktard PS3. How about, the day the game is released, I leave school and go straight there, only for this fool to pull out an Xbox version. The Delux Sets were in limited supply so I couldn't exchange it for a PS3 version.

Probably going to get hate for this but eh I don't give a shit.
So you're saying if I am rich I should have to pay for the game and if I am poor then I shouldn't have to pay? Whether or not you have the money for something is no reason to justify thievery.

Why would game stop provide money to produces and developers from the purchase of a used game?
I purchased a game, the people involved in the making give me ownership of the game (not the property rights) to do as I wish (in the confines of the law). I get bored of the game so I decide to sell the ownership of the disc to Gamestop. Gamestop now owns the cd and can do anything they want with it (within the confines of the law). They decide to sell it to an economically conscious person so they could get a return on their investment; the publishers at this point have nothing to do with the disc because they sold it to the consumer. They have already received their initial investment on the disc. To my knowledge, if I were to purchase a used polo from lacoste or a used car made by ford I don't have to pay these corporations again because they have already received what they are due for the good. However, lets say I do agree with you and gaming publishers get some sort of legislation passed that they must get paid for used games, then what party is forced to pay the publishers if a person sells the game to a friend or on e-bay.BTW the prices of games have not decreased as a result of online pass codes and Gamestop is not the only retailer that does not pay publishers for used game. Best Buy/Future Shop do not along with many other. Steam is also not the glorified gaming god that people make it out to be. Their practice of associating each game with a single account is the reason why I will not purchase the next xbox if the rumours are true.

tl;dr I deeply oppose what kuthar has stated in his short comment.

HARD COPIES OFF GAMES FOR EVER!
#160 - anon (01/04/2013) [-]
The game is the devs property, by selling a used copy you are practically stealing from them. They don't make money off of their own work. That's bullshit and you know it.

This whole thread is bullshit.

I may have not gone in depth enough. Gamestop in particular is terrible when it comes to used game sales. When I went to buy halo 4 on the third day of release the guy over the counter tried to get me to buy a used copy. He didn't ask just once he sat there and tried to convince me to get the used copy over the new copy. Gamestop tells their workers to always sell a used game instead of a new game even if the customer comes to them with a used game. So... gamestop are still assholes, solid copies are not really better than soft ware and used games are not very fun for devs.

I am not asking those who can't afford to buy a new copy not to get the game at all. I just think that if you have the ability to you should always buy a new copy of the game as to support those that made it.
