Why should we call ourselves "North Americans"?
There are 23 sovereign countries in North America - by calling ourselves "North Americans", how would anybody know which country we're from?

No, I'm mostly referring to competitive games like Planetside 2 or maybe DC Online.
In Planetside 2 there is no fair set up, you are thrown into a fight where everyone has better equipment mostly because they've paid for it.

DC Online and several other super hero MMOs actually require you to buy character classes, customization features, and even abilities.

The things that are bought in WoW are only a small amount of pets or mounts.
There are literally hundreds that can be collected and found in-game. By paying this subscription you are given full reign over what you want to do.
The only limitation is buying expansions.

The micro-transactions add up. And in many cases with most "free to play" games where you're forced to buy such things to simply be better it starts to become more expensive than the monthly fee.

League of Legends is one of the few Free games out there that works with it well. There are no betters or best champions, it's all whoever you want and how good you can be with them, and you can gain more through in-game points. And the only things that fully require cash are just cosmetic skins.
But too many games aren't doing that. The add special and improved weapons into what you can buy at early levels and later and some such. That's why I dislike the growing popularity of F2P.
User avatar #55 - kroople (12/07/2013) [-]
I'd say most games that are F2P, even if they execte it poorly, do not make you buy anything to get better in game, or at least not much, and it definitely does not start to become more expensive than a monthly fee unless the player chooses it to be.

"Initial price AND a monthly fee? Nope."
Do you even MMO? That's how it's always been until the "free to play" bullshit became popular.

In fact I prefer this style as opposed to "free to play" or single purchase and no fee games because you're almost guaranteed that all content is in-game and doesn't have to be bought from outside.
World of Warcraft for example. Everything can be found in game, the only exceptions are a few useless pets or mounts that don't do anything special.
User avatar #50 - kroople (12/07/2013) [-]
"a few useless pets or mounts that don't do anything special."

Why not just make those micro-transactions? You still make your money off the game purchase, and there's your ongoing income. Making someone pay for a monthly fee, IMO, discourages player progression. Take Guild Wars 2, for example. You pay a one time fee to buy the game, and the player doesn't have to worry about anything else. They can play the game at their own pace.

I respect your opinion of "that's how it's always been." but it doesn't have to stay that way. F2P is a growing market and many companies are coming to realize how lucrative it is. Take League of Legends. They make SO much cash from skins because they know players will buy them. They have the mindset that "If I didn't buy the game, I my as well buy some skin that's 3 bucks" or whatever, and then thousands of players have that same mindset, making Riot their money.

And this is Mark VII, as in Halo 4, when he was awoken from his capsule, so the artist should have been drawing that armor instead, hence me calling he/she a fucking casual in a joking matter, which is hard to accomplish here and if you get it wrong, you get fucked. Actually its because their are less predators than before and you can talk shit about why we could of done in the first place but now the issue remains and must be dealt with.

And people don't "Hunt" Wolves and predators. They see them as pests or as a threat to live stock (Which they are) So farmers in order to stay in business must kill them. However no one sees a wolf and thinks "Lets shoot it" We think "Holy fuck a wolf that's a rare sight."
