What if I told you there are no 4K 120hz displays in existence yet?

Only the PANEL on that TV refreshes at 120hz, but it doesn't receive a 120hz signal. Why? Because as of today there's still no input standard that has the bandwidth necessary to output 3840x2160@120hz. The most you can get today is 60hz, while 75hz is rumored to be around the corner.

So why is the panel 120hz when it doesn't receive anything more than 60hz? Because of the frame interpolation / smoothing that a lot of TVs do. You'll only get a very weird and fake looking smoothness out of it, as it's not a native refresh rate.

Go ahead and take a look at all of those "500hz" or "1000hz" 1080p TVs out there. Hook a PC up to them and see what refresh rate you can pick in your GPU control panel. Guess what? It's only 60hz. A few 1080p TVs actually can do native 120hz, but even that's uncommon.

So there's why you shouldn't buy into snake oil marketing. TV manufacturers are pretty notorious for it. That "1000hz" TV isn't going to make your picture any better than 500hz or 200hz or whatever. If anything you get an awkward looking mix of smooth panning scenes (because they're easier to interpolate) and choppy action scenes.
