It's not "atheism" it's science.
Furthermore to actually somewhat understand these theories takes alot of work. Scientists don't claim to know everything that's why they continue researching particular phenomena in order to try to develop theories on how the universe works and why it works that way.
Christianity is based off a book written by people who claimed to have gotten their information from a higher being. Christians claim that this book provides the answers to how the universe began and obviously alot more
As you can see there is a fundamental difference between the opposing thought processes. Scientists are careful when it comes to developing the truth and use objective evidence. Christians base their beliefs on their faith in people who claim that they received knowledge from God.

sorry but atheism is very simply the lack of belief in a god. anything else is a belief unique to the individual.

As an atheist, I actually don't believe in the Big Bang theory. IMO there is simply not enough proof. Right now, I have no idea how the universe started, but I don't believe God created it. Anyway, I'll try to explain the big bang theory. To put it shorty, it is the theory that all matter was suddenly created in a huge explosion from one single particle. Where did that particle come from? Some scientists think it just popped into existence (possible from another universe). they think this because they have found particles that are able to "pop" into existence out of nowhere. also, some particles can actually be in two different places at the same time. Thats the basics, which i dont personally believe, but I am no scientist.

If you look deeper in to it and try to understand it, then it won't seem weird.

It's the same way with Christianity and all other religions. Other than Mormons and Scientoligists.

As already explained atheism does not represent anything else other than "We refute the existence of god with the evidence provided" Religious people can disprove whatever they want, they are still going to have to prove their god.

Second, there is no credited theory for the beginning of everything, the big bang is how the universe was formed, before that we don't know, and we are searching for the answers. Doesn't mean we put a god there.

Also what is the evidence for this universe being intelligently designed? Because I remember at one point the end all be all proof for that was that bananas fit in the human hand.

Im not going to pretend to be extremely knowledgeable about the subject, because i'm not. I know the gist of the Big Bang theory, but i don't know any of its intricate details. Personally the reason I don't believe in a god is because there is no scientific proof. Its seems ironic that we as humans trust science for literally everything we do in the world, and yet when it comes to the most important truth, the ultimate truth, some people require faith. I trust science to find the truth, just as it has done for centuries, and though it may not always find the right answer right away, i can be certain that it will lead us in the right direction. I would much rather listen to someone who has studied the universe their whole life than someone who claims to somehow know how it all works.
