Jeez, people thumbed you down and stuff over your opinion, I guess that's FJ, either way I get where you're coming from, Cabin in the Woods just isn't for everyone..

Django Unchained was the best one; and the trick to Cabin in The Woods was that it was an homage. To people aren't educated about horror movie culture, specifically the B movies of the late '70s and grindhouse horror films of thee '80s, I can totally see why it seemed stupid and seedy...but the very fact people thought that proves it succeeded!
User avatar #264 - krazykorn (04/29/2013) [-]
Well I mean I thought it was a good rental, which is what I did. I just thought it was sappy and with a dumb plot line really. Special effects were real good. Just seemed cheesy to me. I did really like Django too

B-movie horror of the 80s and 90s was the greatest thing out there.

He may be much older and not exactly in shape from what we saw in "My Name Is Bruce", but I still think Bruce Campbell could have played a role in the Evil Dead remake! The good news, however, is that thanks to Sam Raimi's success with his Wizard of Oz movie and the success of the Evil Dead remake, Raimi and Campbell are currently writing the script for the fourth Evil Dead film, rumored to be called Army of Darkness 2..they originally planned a four part series, but Raimi and Campbell were "burnt out" after the first AoD... I just can't believe I'm actually going to live in a time where I get to see the final Bruce Campbell Evil Dead movie IN THEATERS.
MFW happiest moment ever

I knew that he was going to be in another Evil Dead film, but I had no idea it would be a sequel to the original series. Next to the final film of the Blood and Icecream series, there is nothing I want to see more than Campbell as Ash again. On a similar note, was the remake any good?
#238 - VaultTechy (04/28/2013) [-]
Yeah, actually. I was worried about it, because I figured they'd either mega-budget it and turn it into some flashy light-show, or they'd try too hard to do the original over again, and lacking the original's era and roster, fail in the process, but they just kind of re-did Evil Dead; something that pushed the limits, aimed to the 18-30 y/o crowd and full of attitude that reflects how little it cares about how much it's grossing your girlfriend out because hey, she's the one who thought she liked horror movies and picked it at the theatre
#253 - creosote (04/28/2013) [-]
Didn't see you had replied, as I'm sure you can tell. Probably the most important question for me: Was it funny, like Evil Dead II, or did the cut the humor and just dive into the horror?
User avatar #254 - VaultTechy (04/28/2013) [-]
It was definitely taking all of it's cues from the first Evil Dead, so not as much comedy value, but heavy on the horror, yeah. Very confident in what it was doing, I suppose the original was too and maybe one day we'll laugh at how outdated the 2013 version was, and it'll renew the unintentional comedy of the first one but for right now it's pretty pointedly straight-up scary
#255 - creosote (04/28/2013) [-]
That's too bad. I honestly wasn't that big of a fan of the original, but I guess I ought to give it another go and give the remake a chance.
#256 - VaultTechy (04/28/2013) [-]
Yeah, it is kind of a shame...the second Evil Dead was kind of a parody to the first though, so my assumption (and hope) is that history'll repeat and when the inevitable sequel to this Evil Dead rolls around it'll poke fun at it's own origins as well..
#257 - creosote (04/28/2013) [-]
That would be awesome. It would be cool to see what brand of humor a newer version of the franchise would aim for. Surely the blood overkill wouldn't be present, seeing as part of the humor in that came from how fake the blood looked in the first place.
Unrelated question: How do you feel about the Blood and Icrecream Trilogy?
User avatar #258 - VaultTechy (04/28/2013) [-]
Good shows, definitely; I loved how in the UK, the theatrical release date for Shaun of the Dead and the 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake were the exact same day, and both were fantastic zombie flicks...isn't the third one some kind of apocalyptic bit? IGN blew the whistle on *something* but it didn't quite sound like it was part of Cornetto (I've always known 'em as the Cornetto trilogy so it actually took some Google to find out what Blood and Ice-Cream was, hahah..)
#259 - creosote (04/28/2013) [-]
I'm not entirely sure to be honest. I was originally under the impression that it was going to be about aliens, but that has since been denied. I'm pretty sure it will have SOMETHING to do with the apocalypse, but be it aliens, or whatever, we'll just have to wait and see. I'm pumped though. I'm pissed off that I have to wait until October to see it though, whereas it comes out in August in the U.K. Probably the most disappointing thing to me about the series as a whole though, is that pretty much the whole cast of Spaced has had some appearance throughout the series, with the exception of Mark Heap... Who is amazing. That being said, this movie is going to be amazing.
