The Emperor himself made a near-fatal delay in ordering his armies to do anything whilst Horus wrecked the Imperium, primarily because he found it difficult to believe that Horus would do such a thing. Just before the situation turned absolutely inevitably for the defeat, the Emperor snapped out of it and ordered a full-scale holdout of the Sol system. It culminated in the Siege of Terra, which lasted for such a long time that the modern inhabitants of Terra are still terrified of Space Marines, for the unholy things the Traitor Legions had done.

The Siege culminated in an assault upon Horus's flagship, within which the Arch-Traitor had killed Sanguinius (the Primarch of the Blood Angels Legion) and mortally wounded the Emperor himself. At that moment a single Imperial Armyman by name of Ollanius Pius walked in and stood between the Emperor and the Arch-Traitor, to die fighting. He did so, and as Horus killed the Armyman (by comparison to the god-upon-earth that both the Emperor and the Arch-Heretic were comparable to at the time) the Emperor realized just how far his most successful son had fallen, and past that point had simply wiped the Arch-Traitor out of existence with pure psychic power, in both the Immaterium and the physical realm.

The God-Emperor, mortally wounded, was set upon the Golden Throne of Terra, which while originally was a portal to the Webway had been converted into a monumental life-sustaining machine.

From then onward the Imperium has gotten progressively darker and more brutal into a regime near indistinguishable from the Emperor's direct rule. More and more enemies had been cropping up, not the least of which are the Tyranids which had arrived from another galaxy.

In between the end of the Horus Heresy and what is set as the approximate modern day has been ten thousand years of insurrection, bloodshed, treason, dissidence with the occasional advancement or expansion/crusade.

Pictured is the Emperor upon the Throne. Continued again.

The Great Crusade was something of an Age unto itself, where the Emperor captured, conquered, subjugated, integrated or flat-out annihilated countless worlds which formed the Imperium known today. It begun with the unification of Terra (Earth) and Mars, which formed the technical beginning of the Imperium.

Imperial expansion was slow after that point, for the Space Marine Legions (for back then they were indeed Legions, hundreds of thousands strong) were made as assault infantry, not occupational forces. That duty had been left to the newly-formed Imperial Army, which unlike the Legions, required vast numbers of Armymen which simply were not there. The conquest of the galaxy thus spread rather slowly, but picked up speed as more and more worlds conscripted more and more fighting men per annum.

All was going well, until the Emperor decided to head back to Holy Terra to attempt to crack the secrets of the Eldar Webway and render Warp Travel (yes, the only reliable method to travel at FTL thus far was to rip a hole in reality and enter a dimension where reality itself is a joke in bad taste) obsolete.

Then the Horus Heresy happened.

It began with various members of Lorgar's Word Bearer Legion being corrupted by Chaos. Ironically, the Word Bearers had been the most zealous Legion amongst them, their Primarch Lorgar even writing the Lexitio Divinatum, a text which venerated the Emperor as a deity. Ironically, Lorgar's religion actually rose from the banishment of the Chaos-worshipping old ways of their home world.

The Chaos-tainted chaplain Erebus eventually managed to corrupt Horus, the Warmaster left in charge of the mop-up of the Galaxy. The Arch-Traitor (as he became known) gathered exactly half the Space Marine Legions to his side (to say nothing of a full third of the Imperial Army, which by then was gargantuan) and set about besieging the Imperium they helped forge.

Continued. Pictured is Imperator and Son, before all's well that went to hell.

To answer your question, there have been many, many, many developments onto the series.

The original tabletop wargame is in its seventh edition, with all sorts of new functions and rules. The best addition is that of flying units, such as troopships and gunships and such things.

There have been quite a few videogames based around the setting, the latest and most noticeable of which being Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. It's available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, and thus far has been the single best depiction of the setting.

Pictured is the God-Emperor himself, at the height of the Horus Heresy.

This individual is all but the crux and the reason things still are the way they are, and haven't collapsed to shit yet. It is by faith in Him that humankind persevere to fight and die and work for him and the Imperium - the two are literally inseparable.
Games Workshop (the creator company) states that he arose sometime in 8000 BC, somewhere near modern-day Mongolia.

In the mists of the dark age of humankind, where daemons and darkness ruled the Immaterium and the void beyond, several hundred thousand psykers (individuals with comparably powerful souls capable of moving and manipulating the Immaterium) congregated to discuss what would be done about the Warp, and the daemons that kept on consuming the dead human souls. Each one of them being not only a skilled psyker able to reincarnate, were also generals, great leaders, artisans, savants, scientists, geniuses and the general very upper crust of humankind at the time. Thus, they committed ritual suicide as one, flooded the Immaterium (producing a light so blinding within the Warp that the infinite masses of daemons were unable to move, let alone act) and reincarnated as one singular, gargantuan and all-powerful soul. This is the being that was to be known as the Emperor.

The Emperor kept guiding and assisting humankind from the shadows for much of the time, through the Dark Age of Technology and then the Age of Strife which nearly destroyed humankind not once but twice.

His plan had been to raise both generals and armies via the Primarch Project - twenty genetically identical clones of himself, and the aforedescribed genetic surgery which can trasform one in a million human youths into superhuman killing machines. Unfortunately, the Chaos Gods interfered and scattered the Primarchs all throughout the galaxy whilst the Primarchs were still in infancy.

The Emperor then recouped his losses and launched the Great Crusade.

72. "The French are not as efficient as the Germans in large scale, mass production."

The French are not as efficient as the Germans in building tanks, guns, planes, flame-throwers, concentration camps and torture chambers.

The French are not efficient in starting wars. The Germans are. German efficiency is used against peaceful, decent people.

What does "efficiency" really mean ? Is it only a matter of output and production charts and impressive statistics ? Are the Germans more "efficient" in providing happiness or peace to their people ? Are the Germans more "efficient" in building decency, kindness, respect for human life ? Has German "efficiency" led to greater wisdom, better art, deeper morals, finer philosophies ?

A prison is one of the most "efficient" institutions man ever created - but who wants to live in it ?

Bad reasoning and being the bad guys or not, during WWII Germany made groundbreaking strides in technology, which include the worlds first assault rifle, first (and only) operation rocket fighter, and the first operational jet fighter. War is, in my opinion, the best way to quickly advance in technological means, because one side wants to develop better equipment and weapons before the other side does. (Any questions of WWII technological advancements, weapons, politics, or any questions in general, feel free to ask, I've studied the shit out of its aspects.)
User avatar #72 - thepizzadevourer (12/18/2014) [-]
Yeah, I get that. I wasn't actually trying to be sarcastic with the comment, I mean, aside from some of the semi-to-literally insane people in the highest ranks, Germany did amazingly well in WWII.

What was the first assault rifle?
User avatar #57 - alecmason (12/18/2014) [-]
The SturmGewehr 44 (StG 44) was the first weapon that was classified as an assault rifle. During WWII, the Germans wanted to produce powerful automatic weapons, yet retaining squad/infantry mobility. The result was the StG 44, however, Hitler ordered production to be towards Sub Machine Guns. Field tests and frontline reports showed that the StG 44 performance exceeded expectations. To get away with producing the rifle, it was produced under the name MP 44, as to not raise suspicions when documents of production were reviewed. Some time later, Adolf Hitler himself fired the weapon, and christened it the Sturm Gewehr 44. Limits in materials and the Allies pushing the Germans back on almost all fronts, the StG 44 was unable to enter mass production, but in the numbers it was produced, it was a popular rifle amongst the units it was utilized with.

A lot of jewish traditions/practices were made for health reasons, including circumcision and the basic laws of keeping kosher. Way back when, showers weren't all that common for people bumbling around in the desert, and you can be damn sure that they got dirty as shit out there. I can only imagine that not having an extra flappy bit at the end of your dick that seemed to exist only to collect dirt and bacteria seemed like a damn good trade off for a little bit of pain as an infant. Over time, those practical practices were phased out by the rise of modern medicine, but are still culturally ingrained in Jewish culture, which is why the practice of circumcision is still around. As a circumcised Jew, I can't really miss what I never had, so all the people shouting about how its mutilation can piss up a tree, I enjoy sex just fine.

hope that answered your question!

Yes, because I'm not aware of the majority of it - let alone any significant event that's occurred.

**** happens quick, and news doesn't spread as fast.
User avatar #1873 to #1872 - syrianassassin ONLINE (12/24/2014) [-]
**** happens quick because we let it happen.

news are just a puppet. and 98% all belongs to one groups spreading what they want for their own interest.

i guess it is the time (really) to shut down the media.
User avatar #1874 to #1873 - krasnogvardiech (12/24/2014) [-]
Hold on. Nothing happens that easy.

First off, start defining things. Which media do you want to shut down? What do you mean by 'media', the liberal trash of the U.S or the somewhat more honest organizations of the rest of the world?

The world doesn't revolve around the states. And of course it does, that's how fascism works. Not a bad system either, if not for the laziness and spinelessness of those involved.
User avatar #1875 to #1874 - syrianassassin ONLINE (12/24/2014) [-]
the first one is as you said.

as you can see the CIA-SIL are spreading fast because the media support. the only way to shut them down is to close the media in iraq and syria.

but of course the world will go public outcry/
User avatar #1876 to #1875 - krasnogvardiech (12/24/2014) [-]
How would that work? Media in that region consists of people on ham radios reporting things to one another. Except for air traffic controllers and the like, but then again word of mouth is the primarily relied-on source. And you know how bad that is. Unless I'm wrong and they really do look to obviously edited propaganda as the truth.
User avatar #1877 to #1876 - syrianassassin ONLINE (12/24/2014) [-]
this is the problem. the CIA-SIL got stronger because the media. the only way to clear them is first close it then eradicate the area they live in.

doubt. Spetsnaz would blow up the rifles before they got them.

my russian friend told me about 2 movies with spetsnaz being awesome

one...a spetsnaz was checking an area with for enemies...a guy jumped out and grabbed his rifle....the struggled for a moment but when the spets figured it was taking too long he just pushed his rifle at the guy, drew his pistol and shot him them got his rifle back

another one had a bad guy with an ak....the spets ran up, and kicked under the gun twice...first time unloading the magazine the second cocking out the chambered round.....the guy was in a state of shock...how did the spets do that....the spets took his rifle....reloaded it, gave it back to the guy....double kicked again to unload it...the guy was impressed...then the spets killed him

Oh, that. All good.

So, howzit? I reckon Fallout 4 will bring in either something completely new, or disappointingly less.

Personally, I'd like it to be even more rich with potassium (/k/) than New Vegas was. Each weapon type being a different system, with each different weapon being a different version of so.

Rails, trigger systems, firing pins and barrels, rifling, the works. And silencers and scopes and other such things.

Strength at 10, Dual wield Gatling lasers
User avatar #1807 to #1806 - krasnogvardiech (11/21/2014) [-]
Give me specifics, you dense ************ !

Strength 10 allows you to hold and effectively use a weapon ~15 kilograms in each hand. Since there is no way you are able to dual-weild heavy minigun laser weapons, they will have to be systems similar to an RCW mounted on submachinegun frames. Since they're laser weapons, recoil will be minimal.
The focusing and optics will be shot to hell right quick. About 30 seconds of sustained fire equalling 600 full-power shots, 3500 half-power shots.
#1808 to #1807 - anotherponyaccount (11/21/2014) [-]
I this not think this through, I just said what I thought was cool but did stop to think if it should.
And I meant two gatling lasers, one in left hand and one in right hand

User avatar #1809 to #1808 - krasnogvardiech (11/21/2014) [-]
Gatling lasers akimbo is just impractical. They're weapons designed to be operated with two or more hands, with the reloading and such.
Pistols are much more easily managed. In that case it's tricky, but not impossible to reload with just one hand.
